What We Offer

Reporting to Senior Director, Global Programs, the Canadian Immigration Associate Attorney will be accountable for managing clients and complex immigration cases for the firm's Canadian immigration practice.  Associate Attorneys are responsible for managing Immigration Assistants and Paralegals in the filing of assigned immigration case work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal representation to clients in matters related to Canadian business immigration law.
  • Lead and manage complex immigration cases, ensuring strategic and compliant outcomes.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) processes and requirements.
  • Represent BAL at client meetings, presentations, and other professional engagements.
  • Maintain proactive and high-level communication with clients, offering sound legal advice and strategic guidance.
  • Supervise and mentor a team responsible for preparing and submitting Canadian immigration cases, including:
    • Delegating and prioritizing casework and special projects.
    • Training Immigration Advisors, Coordinators, and Paralegals.
    • Ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality of all casework.
    • Overseeing billing processes and approvals.
    • Conducting performance reviews, setting goals, and supporting professional development throughout the year.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys across the firm to share insights and updates on Canadian immigration law.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of attorney-related policies and procedures.
  • Support firm leadership in identifying and addressing strategic needs within the Canadian immigration practice.
  • Champion quality assurance and consistency in Canadian immigration legal services.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4–6 years of experience practicing Canadian business immigration law.
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal; proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in legal technology and case management systems.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or equivalent legal education.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in both Canada and the United States.
  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
  • Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, delivering, and using the telephone.
  • Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Regular and on-time attendance.
  • Must be able to prioritized, schedule and complete testing required for multiple applications with overlapping schedules.
  • A certain degree of creativity and flexibility is required.
  • Hours may exceed 40 hours per week.
  • Occasional travel by conventional means including aircraft, motor vehicle and the like within the region and to other locations as required.
