Who are we?

The Ballad team is comprised of business professionals, strengthening the communities in which we live and work. Our diverse team brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and creativity to each project we undertake. We provide services related to training, business planning, government relations, Indigenous engagement, and community development. Ballad ensures that the work we undertake has meaningful impact, ALWAYS.

Today, Ballad employs more than 80 team members across 13 offices throughout Alberta. We operate innovative simulated worksites that include construction, hospitality, warehouse, retail, and industrial training environments, helping thousands of Albertans develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the workforce.

The Opportunity

Ballad is seeking an experienced Safety Officer to lead and continuously strengthen our health and safety program. We are proud to be a COR-certified organization in good standing, with a strong safety foundation already in place. Rather than building a program from scratch, we're looking for someone who can help take our program to the next level by leading continuous improvement, advancing our digital safety systems, and ensuring we're well prepared for Ballad's continued growth.

We're looking for someone who is positive, approachable, highly organized, and passionate about, yes you guessed it, safety! You're comfortable working independently, but equally enjoy collaborating with leaders and employees to make Ballad an even safer place to work. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who believes safety should be engaging, practical, and collaborative while helping create a workplace where every employee goes home safely each day.

If you're excited about taking a strong COR-certified program into its next chapter through digital innovation, continuous improvement, and organizational growth, we'd love to hear from you.

This is a part-time position (approximately 40-60 hours per month) based in either our Edmonton or Calgary office, with occasional travel to Ballad locations throughout Alberta.

  • Support the implementation and ongoing administration of SiteDocs.
  • Ensure inspections, incident reports, hazard assessments, training records, and safety documentation are maintained digitally.
  • Monitor system utilization and promote consistent adoption across all locations.

  • Deliver health and safety onboarding for all new employees.
  • Chair Ballad's Joint Health & Safety Committee.

  • Promote an engaging, proactive, and solutions-focused safety culture.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of occupational health and safety experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
  • Experience working with COR-certified organizations.
  • Experience with digital safety management systems (SiteDocs is considered a strong asset).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong digital skills, including GoogleSuite and cloud-based software.
  • Ability to work independently while building positive relationships across a multi-site organization.
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or equivalent designation preferred.
