The Tax Accountant is responsible for the execution, accuracy, and timeliness of the Company's indirect tax compliance, business registrations, and related accounting activities across all operating jurisdictions. This role ensures operating taxes, property taxes, and business licenses are filed correctly, recorded accurately in the general ledger, and supported by strong documentation and internal controls. The Tax Accountant plays a key role in minimizing compliance risk, supporting audits, maintaining scalable tax processes, and ensuring tax data integrity across systems. This role also provides defined support for corporate business insurance activities as needed.
What You'll Do

Prepare, review, and file multi-state sales and use tax returns in compliance with all jurisdictional requirements.

Maintain tax compliance calendars to ensure filings, payments, and registrations are completed accurately and on time.

Monitor applicable tax laws, regulations, and internal policies to ensure ongoing compliance and proactive risk mitigation.

Guide internal teams on use tax assessments and proper tax treatment of transactions.

Support state and local tax audits, including documentation preparation, research, and issue resolution.

Research, track, and resolve tax notices, assessments, and correspondence from taxing authorities.

Prepare, file, and maintain business licenses, permits, and Secretary of State registrations across jurisdictions.

Manage state tax portals and system access to ensure appropriate controls and continuity.

Administer and optimize tax software and tools (e.g., Avalara), identifying opportunities for automation and process improvement.

Support W-9 compliance and assist with annual 1099 reporting processes.

Record monthly property tax journal entries and prepare annual property tax filings and documentation.

Perform general ledger analysis, reconciliations, and monthly journal entries for tax-related accounts.

Support budgeting, forecasting, internal audits, external audits, and governmental reporting requirements.

Assist with tax, license, and registration requirements related to acquisitions, restructurings, and other business changes.

Support corporate business insurance activities, including statements of values, claims coordination, and insurance record maintenance.
What We're Looking For

Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in tax accounting or a related accounting role.

Experience working in a multi-entity, multi-state environment required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookups, and data analysis.

Experience with tax automation or research tools such as Avalara required.

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP or similar ERP systems preferred.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.

Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize workload, and work independently while collaborating cross-functionally.

Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive financial information with discretion.
