Bay Venues …. Haven’t heard of us? Not to worry; I bet you have heard of some of the venues we own or operate – the Clubfit gyms, Baywave, or Mercury Baypark to name a few. As the kaitiaki of over 25+ facilities in Tauranga Moana, we proudly offer a range of activities and experiences intended to put a smile on the dial of our community.

Here at Bay Venues, we are all about ensuring we create memorable moments - and we do so intentionally through connection and fun with each other and our community. Our values of Manaakitanga (Service), Whakawhanaungatanga (Relationships), Kaitiakitanga (Caring) and He Toi Tangata (Excellence) are lived on the daily as we strive to enhance the wellbeing of the people we serve. It’s no small feat, but we know that when we facilitate connections and collaborate with others, great things will happen!

About the Role:

As our Security Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of security at Bay Venues. You’ll lead the development and delivery of our security programme, bringing specialist expertise and a proactive approach to protecting our people, customers, venues and events.

Working as part of the Health Safety & Security team, you’ll provide strategic and operational security leadership across our diverse venue portfolio. This is an opportunity to build capability, strengthen systems and influence how security is embedded across our organisation.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining Bay Venues’ security framework, including policies, standards and procedures.
  • Leading security planning for major events, partnering with operational teams to identify risks and implement effective controls.
  • Conducting security risk assessments across our venue portfolio and providing practical recommendations to reduce risk.
  • Managing relationships with contracted security providers, ensuring strong service delivery, performance and continuous improvement.
  • Providing specialist advice on protective security, threat preparedness, emergency management and incident response.
  • Leading and developing the Security Operations Lead while contributing as an active member of the wider Health, Safety & Security team.

About You:

The successful candidate will bring strong technical security expertise, sound judgement and a proactive approach to creating safe and secure environments. They will have experience developing and improving security practices, assessing risk and providing practical solutions in complex operational settings. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, the ability to influence across all levels of the organisation, and a practical approach to balancing security requirements with exceptional customer and community experiences will be essential.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in security, risk management, emergency management, policing, defence, events or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of protective security, physical security, risk assessment and incident management practices.
  • Experience planning security arrangements for events, venues or public-facing environments.
  • The ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively with internal teams and external providers.
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing others.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide clear advice and influence decisions.
  • A calm, solutions-focused approach and the ability to respond effectively in high-pressure situations.
  • A qualification in security, risk management or a related discipline (including NZ Certificate in Security Level 4 or equivalent experience) would be highly regarded.

We have put together a bunch of perks to support our culture of connection and fun.  Ones that reinforce that we are part of the awesome leisure and events industry, and all the magic that comes along with that. Our benefits include:

  • a gym membership to our Clubfit Gyms,
  • access to our five aquatic facilities,
  • subsidised speedway passes and generous discounts on our programmes, services and merchandise,
  • heavily subsidised coffee at our on-site cafes,
  • access to a range of development opportunities through our Learning & Development programme

So why not join us? We have the right purpose to fuel meaningful careers, the right attitude to support work life balance, and the right leadership to foster an amazing culture.  No matter your age and stage you may be, we are an inclusive bunch all driven by our purpose of Spaces to Belong | Experiences to Connect. Come on – take the punt; you won’t regret it!
