The Specialist Medical Scientist: Blood Transfusion (Cellular Therapy) will in co-operation with the Consultant Haematologist and Chief Medical Scientist, plan, manage, and oversee operations and workflows in the implementation of a National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) for Cellular Therapy Centre in Beaumont Hospital to deliver licensed CAR-T and other cell therapies to Beaumont Hospital, HSE Dublin and North East.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →To perform his/her duties under the general direction of the Consultant Haematologist /Chief Medical Scientist.
- →To perform all aspects of technical work to the highest standard.
- →To supervise and provide guidance and support to senior medical scientists and medical scientists in the performance of their duties.
- →To organise the technical programme so that work patterns are efficiently maintained.
- →To carry out routine inspections of laboratory equipment in his/her charge and to ensure that the equipment is properly maintained and kept in serviceable condition.
- →To collaborate with the Chief Medical Scientist in the maintenance of efficiency and the introduction of new methods in the laboratory.
- →To assist in training of laboratory staff.
- →To assist in implementing measures for the safety, health and welfare of all the staff.
- →To assist in the training of student medical scientists, on call personnel, junior medical staff and visiting workers as required.
- →To assist in compliance with requirements of Human Tissue Authority (HTA) for product procurement, Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) for Tissue Establishment and ISO 15189.
- →To represent the Consultant haematologist/Chief Medical Scientist at meetings when required.
- →To attend courses and meetings as appropriate to maintain up to date knowledge.
- →To undertake CPD.
- →To perform any other duties as may be appropriate to the grade.

Diploma in Clinical Laboratory Practice
Bachelor in Science (Applied Science) Honours degree (Biomedical option) from the University of Dublin/Dublin Institute of Technology (Awarded prior to 2002)
BSc (Honours) Biomedical Sciences, University College Cork (UCC). (Awarded prior to 2013)
Section 91 candidates are individuals who qualified before 31st March 2019 and have been engaged in the practice of the profession in the Republic of Ireland for a minimum of 2 years fulltime (or an aggregate of 2 years fulltime), between 31st March 2014 and 31st March 2019 are considered to be Section 91 applicants under the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005.
