OtherArea Manager

We've spent over a decade building a brand people genuinely love, through our products, our presence online, and the way we show up in the world. Now we're showing up in person. Our first U.S. store has opened in New York's Flatiron District, and it won't be our last. But a great store doesn't run itself. Someone needs to manage the build-outs, lead the Store Managers, and stitch together the systems that make it all hold together. That's where you come in.

Our Area Manager will be the person behind the scenes making Bellroy's U.S. retail presence real. While Store Managers focus on the customer experience, you'll be focused on everything that makes that experience possible: While our Retail Steering team and senior leadership sort out the real estate, including site selection and lease negotiations, you'll own fitouts and how our stores actually operate when they open. Leading the team that runs them, and writing the operational playbook that lets us do it well, and then do it again.

If you've ever wanted to build a retail operation rather than inherit one, and you care about doing it at a company that actually walks the walk, we're a certified B Corp, and we'd love to talk.

We're looking for someone who gets energised by firsts, finds satisfaction in the operational detail, and wants to help us prove that retail can be done differently.

  • Three to five years in multi-site or store leadership, accountable for sales, team, and customer experience. You might be stepping up from an area, district, cluster, or store manager role, or have recently moved into a head-office retail position.
  • A track record of leading and developing frontline managers and teams. You set clear expectations, coach people, give direct feedback, and hold the standard without making it miserable.
  • Comfort owning retail performance. You can read the numbers, spot what's slipping early, and do something about it before the month closes.
  • An eye for the operational detail that keeps a store humming: rosters that work, stock that's where it should be, visual standards that hold, and opening and closing rhythms that don't wobble.
  • Built or embedded repeatable processes before, and documented them well enough that the next person could pick them up and run.
  • The kind of temperament that's energised by firsts. This is still early days for US retail, so there's no finished playbook waiting for you. You'll help write it.
  • A habit of staying close to what good retail looks like, what competitors are doing and where the interesting ideas are, and you bring that thinking back to the team.

Even if your background doesn't tick every box, if you've run a great store or team and you're energised by helping build something from the early days, we'd love to hear from you.

  • Help coordinate the Flatiron build-out and work side by side with the Store Manager to get our first US store open and running well, from daily operational standards through to the experience customers have on the floor.
  • Prepare for a potential second U.S. store opening by December, we're currently in lease/legal review for a second location, so there's a real chance you'll be supporting two store openings before the end of the year.
  • Connect regularly with our retail team in Australia to borrow what's already working and adapt it for the US.
  • Coach and develop the store team, setting the bar for how Bellroy retail should feel in the US.
  • Start shaping the operational playbook for US stores, so the next opening is smoother than the first.
  • Take ownership of in-store performance, getting close to the KPIs, the customer experience, and the weekly rhythms that keep a store healthy.
  • Share weekly updates with retail leadership on what you're seeing, what's working, and where we need to make a call.
