Saul Centers operates and manages a real estate portfolio of 61 community and neighborhood shopping center and office properties totaling approximately 9.8 million square feet of leasable area. 
 
Saul Centers’ primary operating strategy is to continue its program of internal growth, renovations, and expansions of community and neighborhood shopping centers that primarily service the day-to-day necessities and services subsector of the overall retail market.

The Vice President, Controller will be responsible for all aspects of financial accounting and financial reporting including the preparation of monthly financial statements and Forms 10-Q and 10-K and related disclosures and footnotes.  The successful candidate will ensure compliance with policies and procedures including key controls over financial reporting.

    • Manage, mentor, train and develop the accounting staff
    • Provide accounting support to the management team and billing support for tenants
    • Analyze monthly property operating statements and work with property management to identify and explain causes of variances
    • Ensure all monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports are prepared in conformance with US GAAP and are consistent from period to period
    • Review monthly cash flow forecasts prepared for monthly management reporting
    • Continuously improve through automation, improved processes and efficient procedures the accuracy, efficiency and timeliness of information provided to stakeholders
    • Remain current on new and evolving changes in US GAAP and analyze the impact of those changes on the Company
    • Review accounts receivable and ensure that the level of the provision for doubtful accounts is reasonable
    • Strong communication skills (written and oral), self-confidence and ability to evaluate and articulate decisions in a concise, coherent fashion
    • Demonstrated ability to train, mentor and develop staff with superior leadership and managerial skills
    • Strong leadership with the ability to work well with external constituents and internal employees from different function areas
    • Entrepreneurial and an outside the box mindset
    • Strong level of financial acumen and high level of analytical ability
    • Demonstrated integrity and the ability to communicate a clear set of values and high standards

    • 10 to 15 years of relevant accounting experience
    • 5 years of public accounting experience
    • 5 years of managerial experience
    • Strong knowledge of applicable accounting standards, financial statement preparation and SEC reporting requirements
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
    • CPA required
    The actual base pay offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, years of relevant experience, distinctive skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held.  Base pay is one component of Saul Centers Inc. total compensation package, which also includes access to or eligibility for healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, bonus plans and more.
