Position Summary
The Lead Network Engineer serves as a senior technical leader responsible for design, deployment, and global network infrastructure across data centers, cloud platforms, and international offices. This role leads complex network projects, serves as a technical guide to engineers, and leads enterprise networking, data center fabrics, cloud connectivity, and operational reliability in a 24/7 global environment. The position requires advanced expertise in EVPN, VXLAN, BGP, AWS, GCP, Azure, Cisco Nexus, Juniper QFX, and Palo Alto NGFW platforms, along with a hands-on technical leadership approach and strong cross-functional collaboration.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Lead, maintain and support hybrid cloud networking strategies leveraging AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute, and multi-region connectivity.
- Lead, maintain and support the implementation of scalable, resilient, and secure network solutions across global data centers, cloud environments, and corporate sites.
- Lead network modernization initiatives utilizing next-generation data center fabrics (using EVPN/VXLAN, BGP, and spine-leaf topologies).
- Design and support hybrid cloud networking strategies leveraging AWS GCP, Azure, and multi-region connectivity.
- Support lifecycle management activities of core network infrastructure, including Cisco Nexus, Juniper QFX, and Palo Alto firewalls.
- Develop and recommend standards for wireless architecture, including predictive site surveys, RF planning, and performance optimization.
- Drive automation initiatives to streamline network operations and reduce manual overhead.
- Lead global network operations workflows, ensuring high availability and performance across all regions.
- Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and incident response protocols for critical infrastructure.
- Maintain detailed network documentation, including as-built diagrams, logical and physical topologies, and CMDB entries.
- Ensure alignment with compliance frameworks and internal governance policies.
- Collaborate with Security and Compliance teams to implement segmentation, threat detection, and vulnerability remediation strategies.
- Support and and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans for network infrastructure.
- Partner with engineers for remote data center operations, including cabling, hardware deployment, and diagnostics.
- Engage with Engineering, Cloud, and IT teams to support product launches, infrastructure scaling, and strategic initiatives.
- Other tasks and activities as assigned.
Required Education/Experience & Skills
- 8 years of experience in enterprise network engineering within a lead or principal role.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- Expert-level knowledge of Cisco Nexus 9K/7K, Juniper QFX, and Palo Alto NGFW platforms.
- Proven experience designing and deploying EVPN/VXLAN fabrics and BGP-based architectures.
- Strong understanding of cloud networking and direct interconnects across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Experience managing global network environments across multiple regions and time zones.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and technical leadership skills.
- Preferred certifications include CCIE, JNCIE, or equivalent expert-level credentials.
- Preferred experience with network automation tools and languages, including Python, Ansible, and Terraform.
- Familiarity with VPN technologies, and Zero Trust architectures.
- Knowledge of network observability tools such as NetBox, Grafana, and SolarWinds.
Physical Requirements
- General office environment and responsibilities requiring:
- Extensive use of the computer which involves viewing a monitor and keyboarding for most of the workday
- Placing and receiving phone calls
- Occasionally moving and lifting objects up to 20 pounds
- Hybrid role based in the Burlington, MA office.
- Inclusion in a rotating on-call schedule to support critical network operations outside of business hours.
- May require up to 10% travel as needed
