The Director of Accounting is the senior financial leader for the steel pipe manufacturing business unit, responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust internal controls, and driving operational financial performance that supports business growth.
This role serves as the chief accounting authority, overseeing all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition. The Financial Controller manages the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements while ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements. This position leads the accounts payable team of two employees and collaborates closely with the Director of FP&A on financial reporting milestones and business planning activities. The Financial Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and serves as a trusted financial partner to operational and business leaders. The role combines deep accounting expertise with business acumen to provide accurate financial data and actionable insights that enable informed decision-making across the manufacturing organization.
Working conditions are a combination of office environments and steel pipe manufacturing plant settings with regular interaction with production managers, operations leaders, and frontline supervisors. Exposure to industrial manufacturing conditions requiring personal protective equipment (PPE) may occur during plant visits and physical inventory observations. Travel may be required for multi-site coordination, corporate meetings, or external audit support.
Requirements
~1 min read1.1 Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA certification highly preferred.
1.2 7-10+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including manufacturing or industrial environments.
1.3 Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial reporting standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
1.4 Proven experience managing accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cost accounting systems.
1.5 Experience with ERP systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
1.6 Demonstrated ability to lead and develop accounting teams while fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
1.7 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to translate complex financial data into clear business insights.
1.8 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including FP&A, operations, and senior leadership.
1.9 Experience with inventory accounting, cost accounting, and manufacturing financial processes including variance analysis and cost management.
1.10 Detail-oriented professional with high ethical standards and commitment to financial integrity and internal controls.
Responsibilities

2.2 Oversee the preparation and publication of timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP standards.
2.3 Coordinate preparation of regulatory reporting and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
2.4 Serve as primary liaison for external auditors, coordinating annual audit processes and ensuring proper documentation and compliance with all regulations.
2.5 Develop, document, and maintain robust internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure financial data integrity.
2.6 Implement quality control processes over financial transactions and financial reporting to minimize risk and prevent material misstatements.
2.7 Research and resolve technical accounting issues to maintain compliance with evolving accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
2.8 Monitor and analyze cash flow, preparing projections to manage liquidity and support manufacturing operational needs.
2.9 Lead, develop, and supervise the accounts payable team of two employees, ensuring timely and accurate processing of vendor payments and invoice management.
2.10 Establish performance expectations and provide coaching to accounting team members to build capability and drive continuous improvement.
2.11 Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and ethical financial practices across the accounting function.
2.12 Collaborate closely with the Director of FP&A on monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting milestones, budget preparation, and variance analysis.
2.13 Provide financial analysis and insights to operations and business leaders to support strategic planning and performance management decisions.
2.14 Partner with manufacturing operations to analyze production costs, inventory valuation, and operational efficiency metrics.
2.15 Support business planning activities by providing accurate historical financial data and participating in forecasting processes.
