Library Assistant (Part-Time)   The Brearley School, an independent girls’ school serving over 780 students K-XII, welcomes candidates for a part-time Library Assistant beginning immediately. The Library Assistant is an efficient, organized, technologically proficient person who is flexible and takes initiative.   The Library Assistant works with the three full-time Librarians in support of Brearley’s two libraries (Lower School and Middle/Upper School). Hours are are listed:   Monday, Wednesday: 1:00–6:30 pm   Tuesday, Thursday: 3:00–7:30 pm Friday: 1:00–5:00 pm    Interested candidates may apply for this position by completing an application and uploading a cover letter and resume at https://www.brearley.org/careers-at-brearley/   Responsibilities include: Checking in and shelving library materials Assisting patrons with check out Processing and cataloging new materials from various vendors Assisting with clerical duties Preparing and distributing overdue notices Assisting students, faculty and staff in locating materials for curriculum and for pleasure reading Assisting with library programs Assisting with creating bulletin boards, displays, and the physical appearance of the library spaces Assisting with maintenance of library office and supplies Troubleshooting basic technical issues with computer, printers and other equipment   Qualifications include: College degree or equivalent experience and computer skills (required) Experience with K-12 students or in a school Enrollment in or recently graduated from an accredited Library/Information Science Master’s program (preferred) Genuine passion for literature for young people Sincere interest in supporting the learning and growth of young people Excellent communications skills Fairness, consistency and the desire to collaborate Sense of humor Commitment to helping visitors to the library explore and assist patrons in finding what they need   About the School Founded in 1884, Brearley's mission has long combined outstanding academics with an insistence on a larger purpose: A passionate exchange of ideas within the School's walls that prepares girls of adventurous intellect and diverse backgrounds to put their knowledge and habits of mind to meaningful use in the wider world.   A center of intellectual exuberance, the School offers an extraordinary program to girls from across and beyond New York City, attracting and developing a dynamic and committed faculty, who, along with a talented staff, instill in Brearley students a love of learning, an ability to think critically and creatively, a deep curiosity about the world and a pioneering spirit.
