  • SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

The Environmental Specialist will provide technical and regulatory assistance to operations and corporate personnel on environmental issues, project support, and compliance with applicable regulatory and permit requirements.

 

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Maintains environmental policies, processes, permits, and compliance documentation; interprets federal, state, and local regulations to ensure adherence
  • Assesses environmental risks, recommends mitigation strategies, and executes approved actions, including preparation of required regulatory documentation
  • Leads or supports environmental project planning activities such as scheduling, cost estimation, impact assessments, and reporting. This includes project planning for new product development activities to ensure site compliance.
  • Prepares and submits complex environmental permit applications, renewals, approvals, and variances, and maintains accurate permitting schedules aligned with project milestones
  • Monitors regulatory changes (e.g., Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA) and evaluates impacts on project timelines, costs, and compliance obligations
  • Ensure operations adhere to all environmental laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Track and analyze environmental performance metrics, identify trends, and recommend improvements to minimize our environmental impact.
  • Non-compliance events: management of any notices of violation, follow-up reporting, communication to leadership; mitigate ongoing risk; manage follow up corrective action planning.
  • Support new product development launches as it relates to permits, environmental compliance, and waste management programs.
  • Lead and oversee environmental initiatives, ensuring program success and client satisfaction.
  • Sustainability & Climate Action: Support clients in achieving sustainability goals, climate action, and resiliency planning
  • Environmental Compliance Reports: Lead the preparation and completion of environmental compliance inspections, monitoring, reports, and plans (e.g., SPCC Plan, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan, waste reporting).

  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

 

  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
  • This is a full-time position. The base days and hours are Monday through Friday, eight (8) hours per day depending on shift assigned.

 

  • TRAVEL
  • No travel is expected for this position.

 

  • REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required, Master's degree desirable.
  • Five years of related experience preferred.
  •  
  • PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Five (5+) or more years of environmental regulatory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Experience with leading strategic projects, people and/or teams
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Engineering, Environmental Science, or similar
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and PC skills
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental permitting processes, as well as interaction with regulatory agencies
  • Ability to manage multiple permits across large-scale projects with aggressive deadlines
  • Skilled in developing permitting timelines and integrating them into overall project schedules
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for agency coordination and stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage external consultants effectively
  • Commitment to environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance
  • Proactive approach to identifying and resolving permitting challenges
  • Regular and reliable attendance onsite

 

  • ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
  • English language and knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

 

  • WORK AUTHORIZATION
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. as a pre-condition of employment.
