We inspire. --- Role Purpose This role supports the English and School Education programme team in the implementation of programmes and contracts, in compliance with British Council policies and procedures, including financial administration, reporting and data collection, evaluation, operational project delivery, and managing relations with delivery partners. Uganda's education sector has achieved high levels of enrolment, but learning outcomes remain a significant challenge. Key priorities include strengthening teacher training and professional development, improving English language proficiency among teachers and learners, and addressing gaps in foundational literacy and numeracy. The sector also faces added pressures in refugee-hosting districts, where overcrowding, limited resources and teacher shortages affect the quality and continuity of education, with improving equitable access to learning for the most vulnerable children remaining a central focus for government and development partners. Role Accountabilities Managing Self and Others Holds vendors and suppliers to account for service delivery and works independently to manage workload against project deadlines. Financial Support Plans and reports on project budgets, expenditure and forecasting to Programme Managers and the Head of English and School Education, managing smaller budgets directly. Maintains accurate financial records in line with internal and external audit requirements, ensures vendor payments are processed on time in line with SAP Finance guidelines, and complies with British Council financial policies and any external funder or partner requirements. Project Management Manages data entry, quality assurance and basic analysis of monitoring data, producing progress reports for funders. Supports internal compliance through due diligence, records management and data storage, and manages grants administration, selection, evaluation and procurement processes, along with events-based programme components and training. Supports the project or programme manager in implementing diversity mainstreaming action plans. Relationship and Stakeholder Management Manages relationships with clients, partners, stakeholders and vendors at the appropriate level, holding suppliers to account for delivery. Takes accountability for putting the British Council's approach to EDI and anti-racism into practice, engaging visibly with related learning and development. Knowledge & Experience Education Essential: * Degree or proven experience in one of British Council's portfolio areas (Arts, Education, English) Experience Essential: * Experience of working in a supporting role on programmes or contracts * Administrative and financial administration and reporting experience * Good understanding of basic concepts of monitoring and evaluation, and how they are central to good project management * Experience of working with external partners and stakeholders.
