The British Council would like to offer students and graduates an experiential learning opportunity to gain real-world experience through an internship programme. The practical experience gained by the intern is expected to complement the theoretical knowledge acquired during their studies. The intern is expected to both learn from and contribute to the workplace during the internship period, thereby increasing their employability skills. An outcome is that students and graduates become more employable and successful because of the skills they acquire. --- Role context The IT unit work To implement, maintain and monitor the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure in Nigeria Main Offices, supporting ICT Officer and Country ICT Manager in providing a range of appropriate, efficient IT services. Overall this will ensure the wider staff body have seamless access and services to meet their own objectives, business needs, strategy, and the aspirations of the Country Plan. Main accountabilities * Understudy and learn IT processes, and vendor management through interactions with other IT Staff in location * Provide basic administrative support for IT-related activities as required. * Ensuring timely first- and second-level support to ensure seamless operations * Escalating any problems/issues to relevant teams as required and following up to facilitate effective communications to end-users * Supporting the implementation of local projects in conjunction with GIS / the Nigeria ICT team * Support administration, implementation and upgrades of the overall ICT environment (hardware, software and infrastructure) according to business and technical needs, in accordance with the Nigeria / corporate ICT strategy, industry best practice, and necessary change and configuration management. * Ensuring 24/7 availability of Local Area Network (LAN) and Internet connectivity * Monitoring of all server (MS 2016) logs, services, performance, disk space, and the taking of corrective action * Ensuring systems are secured from external threats like hacking/virus attacks, including regular checks on software compliance * Ensuring restricted access to server rooms and the physical security of IT equipment * Organising routinised weekly/monthly/quarterly IT checklist exercises are implemented * Implementing approved updates/upgrades on receipt of guidelines and Technical Design, within agreed timeframes, ensuring service disruptions and appropriate communications to staff * Ensuring ‘correct first time’ installation of standard and approved software * Enhancing business processes of the organisation via suggestions for improvements and new functionality * Managing the IT inventory (software and hardware) * Managing the wifi access network Language Requirements | ---|--- Proefficency in English Language | Additional job requirements | Two years Post NYSC experience in a similar field | Person specification Qualifications | Minimum/essential | Desirable | * Graduate-level or second degree education in Computer Science or a related IT discipline. | * A minimum of two years' relevant work experience post NYSC is required. | Role specific knowledge and experience | Minimum/essential | Desirable | * Hardware and software support * Networking fundamentals * Service Desk Support * Operating systems | * Demonstrate fluency in written and spoken English * be computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint * demonstrate an interest in ICT. | Role specific skills | * IT Support skills * IT security awareness * IT Asset Management * Technical documentation. | British Council core skills | * Communicating and influencing (Level 1) * Planning and organising (Level 1) * Using technology (Level 2) | British Council values and behaviours | British council values and behaviours are applicable across our organisation, in all roles and at all levels.
