Job Title: Lead Teacher of English Why teach at the British Council – Natalia's Story Role Description, Purpose & Accountabilities Join the British Council and help deliver high-quality, engaging English language learning experiences while supporting our cultural relations mission. As a Lead Teacher of English, you will contribute to our global English strategy by delivering outstanding teaching, promoting best practice in ELT, and supporting the professional development of colleagues. You will plan, prepare and deliver effective English language lessons that meet the needs of a diverse range of learners. Ensuring teaching aligns with British Council Global Teaching Standards, you will monitor learner progress, provide constructive feedback, and support learners in achieving their goals. You will also engage in ongoing professional development to maintain high standards and contribute to continuous improvement. Alongside your teaching responsibilities, you will provide academic support to the teaching team through lesson observations, feedback and mentoring of less experienced teachers and/or by leading academic initiatives such as teacher development programmes, planning groups, projects and training activities. These responsibilities will be undertaken alongside teaching hours, with flexibility where additional leadership support is required. You will play an active role in teaching centre activities, attending staff meetings and contributing to the development, evaluation and improvement of courses, materials and services. You will support local marketing initiatives, assist in delivering an excellent customer experience, maintain effective communication with students, and complete all teaching-related administration to required standards. Building positive relationships with students, customers and colleagues will be key to success in this role. You will help learners engage with the British Council’s cultural relations purpose, encouraging greater understanding of the UK, its values and intercultural learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, collaboration and a commitment to quality. You will ensure compliance with all British Council policies relating to safeguarding, data protection, equality, diversity and inclusion, special educational needs and disability, and health and safety, while consistently reflecting the organisation’s values and behaviours in everything you do. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced English language professional who is passionate about teaching, academic excellence and supporting colleagues to deliver exceptional learning experiences. Qualifications & Experience Essential * High proficiency in English across 4 skills, equivalent to CEFR C2 (IELTS Academic Paper Band 8+ in each of the 4 sections of the academic module). * Undergraduate Degree. * Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Certificate TESOL. * Cambridge DELTA/Trinity Diploma TESOL or equivalent as recognised by the British Council. * Specialism, where appropriate e.g., YL qualification eg TYLEC or equivalent. * 4 years post-certificate experience (TEFLi) (and/or equivalent to 2,400 hours) * Experience in teaching relevant age groups to be specified by the centre * Early Years aged 2 to 5 (400+hour * Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours) * Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours) * Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours) * University/Vocational students aged 18 to 25 (400+hours) * Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours) Important Information * Location: the position is based in Tunis Teaching Centre, onsite. * Contract Type: One-year Fixed-Term full time position (37.5h contracted with 24h of teaching) *your your current contract is indefinite, it shall remained as such. * Salary: 3400 TND per month (T3) * Benefits: Annual Leave of 35 days, Monthly Transportation Allowance 36.112 TND, Monthly Presence Allowance 2.08 TND, Medical Insurance: Local medical cover at 2.25% of employee monthly gross salary, Social Insurance: Local at 9.68% of employee monthly gross salary. * Right to Work: The candidates must have legal right to live and work in Tunisia.
