Role Purpose
Join the British Council and play a key role in supporting our global English strategy through the delivery of outstanding English language teaching and a strong commitment to continuous professional development and the sharing of best practices. As an English Teacher, you will inspire learners, contribute to high-quality educational experiences, and help maintain the British Council's reputation as a global leader in English language teaching.
About the Role
In this role, you will plan, prepare and deliver high-quality English language lessons to a diverse range of learners, ensuring teaching practices meet agreed standards and address different learning needs and styles. You will integrate learning technologies into everyday classroom practice to enhance the learning experience and complete all teaching-related responsibilities to a high standard. Teaching assignments may include adult learners, young learners, or a combination of both. Depending on your expertise and interests, you may also have opportunities to contribute to corporate training programmes or teacher training projects.
You will monitor learner progress throughout their courses, providing constructive feedback and guidance to support achievement while encouraging learner autonomy and independent study skills. Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will contribute to the development, review and improvement of courses, learning materials and related services to ensure they continue to meet the needs of students.
Alongside teaching responsibilities, you will complete all required administrative duties accurately and efficiently and actively engage in ongoing professional development activities to enhance your teaching practice and remain up to date with the latest developments in English Language Teaching (ELT). You will also support the British Council’s cultural relations mission by helping students develop a greater understanding of contemporary UK culture and society.
Safeguarding is central to the British Council’s work. You will be responsible for ensuring that all safeguarding and child protection policies, procedures and guidelines are consistently applied and maintained. This includes completing mandatory safeguarding, child protection and other required training, and promoting a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
About You (essential requirements for the role):
* 2 years’ post-certificate (Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL) experience
* Experience in teaching relevant age groups
* Secondary and Adults General English 16+ (1,000+ hours)
* Young Learners aged 6 to 15 (1,000+ hours)
* First Degree (or equivalent)
* Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL (Core)
* High proficiency in English i.e. IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module
* Ensuring teaching meets learner needs and expectations.
* Ensuring teaching meets teaching quality standards and organisational expectations.
* Maintaining good relationships with customers and colleagues.
* Supporting the teaching centre’s activities and British Council plans
Desirable:
* Experience in teaching Young Learners aged 6-7 (250+ hours)
* Experience working in a remote teaching centre operation
* CELTYL or TYLEC
* PGCE primary/ secondary
* DELTA or Dip TEFL/TESOL (Higher)
* Promethean ActivInspire certification

* Job type: Hourly paid teacher
* Per hour amount: BDT 1050 per hour

* Right to work: This role is only open for the candidates who have the legal right to live and work in the job location as visa sponsorship is not provided.
* Work Schedule and Availability:
* * A freelance teacher will be given one or more classes. The teacher must be able to cover the full-term teaching schedule for this / these classes. For example, a class every Sunday at 14:45 – 17:15 for the full ten-week term. There will also be stand-by and long-term cover work available.
* Availability to work on weekends (Fridays and Saturdays) is required.
