Role Description & Purpose
British Council is seeking Senior Teacher of English to join our team in Warsaw, Poland and help maintain and enhance academic quality and professional development within our teaching centre. You will manage and support in-house teacher development programmes, promote high-quality teaching practices, and ensure learners enjoy a rewarding and engaging English language learning experience.
Supporting the wider aims of the British Council and its cultural relations mission, you will play an important role in delivering the organisation’s global English strategy. This includes providing academic leadership and support to the teaching team, implementing plans for teaching, products and service delivery, and ensuring high standards across all areas of provision.
Working collaboratively across teams and customer groups, you will coordinate activities, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and contribute to a positive learning environment. Through the consistent demonstration of best practice in English Language Teaching (ELT), you will drive continuous improvement and strengthen the British Council’s reputation as a global authority in ELT.
Role Accountabilities
Join the British Council as a Senior Teacher and play a leading role in delivering teaching excellence, supporting teacher development, and ensuring a high-quality learning experience for students. You will provide effective line management and wellbeing support for teachers, conduct observations, support performance management processes, and contribute to the recruitment, induction and mentoring of new colleagues.
You will help design and implement an annual Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme aligned to regional priorities, teach regular English language classes, and act as a role model for outstanding classroom practice through demonstration lessons, observations and teacher development activities. You will stay abreast of developments in English Language Teaching (ELT), share thought leadership with colleagues and represent the British Council at professional events where appropriate.
Working closely with Teaching Operations, Customer Services and other teams, you will ensure teaching and learning frameworks, policies and standards are understood and consistently applied, support the introduction of new products and courses, and contribute to product evaluation and development. You will also promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, and SEND practices across the centre, while building strong relationships with customers and helping learners engage with the UK, its values and intercultural experiences.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
* High proficiency in English across 4 skills, equivalent to CEFR C2 (IELTS Academic Paper Band 8+ in each of the 4 sections of the academic module).
* Undergraduate Degree.
* Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Certificate TESOL.
* Cambridge DELTA/Trinity Diploma TESOL or equivalent as recognised by the British Council.
* Specialism, where appropriate e.g., YL qualification eg TYLEC or equivalent.
* 2 years post-diploma i.e. DELTA/Trinity Diploma TESOL experience.
* Extensive knowledge and experience of management and delivery of teacher training.
* Experience of line managing/ coordinating teaching teams.
* Experience in teaching relevant age groups:
* Primary aged 6 to 10 (400 + hours)
* Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours).
* Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours).
* University/Vocational students aged 18 to 25 (400+hours).
* Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours).

* Relevant masters/post graduate qualification
Important Information
* Location: The position is based in our teaching center in Warsaw, Poland.
* Contract Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 37.5 h contracted (own class and covers)
* Contract Type: This is a Full-Time, One-Year-Fixed-Term Contract
* Salary: 9,500 - 11,200 PLN per month
