Job Title: Premium Audit Technical Specialist

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for overseeing and coordinating the premium audit process for complex, multi-state
premium audits including outside audit vendor(s). Coordinates and performs select phone, virtual, or
onsite physical premium audits. Assist underwriters and agents with classifications and rules applicable
to their respective exposures. Receive and review test audit information from workers' compensation
bureaus. Liaison between departments for PayGo customers.


POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research, analyze, and retrieve data to prepare and maintain complex payroll records,
    summaries, and reports; reconcile differences within established payroll, benefit, retirement, and
    accounting systems.
  • Assist and educate underwriters and agents with properly classifying employees and associated
    operations.
  • Coordinate with outside audit vendor(s) to determine the type of audit, policies to audit, and any
    disputes or discrepancies with the audit.
  • Follow up with outside audit vendor(s) to obtain the status of outstanding audits, answering
    applicable questions during the process.
  • Perform select phone, virtual, and onsite physical premium audits.
  • Coordinate with appropriate departments when states or bureaus implement workers'
    compensation changes.
  • Compile and send test audit information to various work comp bureaus and follow up on
    responses.
  • Develop and maintain procedures for the premium audit process.
  • Identify and provide underwriting with descriptions of prospective and existing insureds'
    operations and ministry profiles.
  • Navigate NCCI and independent bureau websites to obtain technical audit support.
  • Maintain minimum and maximum payroll information for partners, officers, and LLCs.
  • Provide input into system changes related to workers' compensation.
  • Complete other projects as assigned.

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Possess strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle difficult situations in a diplomatic manner.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of premium audit software applications and spreadsheets.
  • Effectively interface with external contacts, Brotherhood employees, managers, and department
    staff members.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
List Degree Requirement, Years' Experience, and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Two to three years of general business, insurance, or premium audit experience, is required.
  • Demonstrated past experience with independent bureaus and NCCI workers' compensation rules
    and regulations is required.
  • Past experience with payroll records, general ledgers, income statements, profit and loss
    statements, state and federal tax records, and spreadsheet applications is required.
  • CPCU, APA, CIPA, or other insurance-related coursework is desired.
  • Two to three years of workers' compensation underwriting experience is desired.
