The Senior System Administrator is a senior-level technical contributor within the Infrastructure Team, responsible for the configuration, operation, and lifecycle management of enterprise systems that support academic delivery and college operations across multiple campuses. This role owns critical infrastructure platforms, including enterprise servers, virtualization environments, identity services, storage systems, and Microsoft 365 services, ensuring they are stable, secure, and highly available.

The position provides advanced technical support and serves as a primary escalation point for complex issues, guiding Campus Technical Coordinators and other IT staff in the resolution of problems involving server technologies (physical and virtual), Active Directory and Entra ID, group policy, Microsoft 365, and enterprise storage platforms. This role is expected to independently lead the execution of infrastructure initiatives, including system upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle replacements.

The Senior System Administrator I ensures all supported systems are securely configured, regularly maintained, and compliant with institutional standards in coordination with the Information Security team. The role contributes to the development and refinement of technical standards, while supporting broader modernization efforts aligned with the College’s technology roadmap.

Evening and weekend work may be required to support maintenance windows, system upgrades, and continuity operations.

  1. Virtual Environment Responsibilities: Configure, administer, and maintain virtualization environments, including Hyper-V and S2D clusters, ensuring performance, capacity, and stability.
  2. Advanced Systems Administration: Manage enterprise identity, server, storage, backup, and Microsoft 365 systems, ensuring they are secure, available, and properly maintained.
  3. Systems Support and Escalation: Serve as a Tier 3 escalation point, providing advanced troubleshooting and resolution for complex system and infrastructure issues.
  4. Project Leadership: Independently lead infrastructure projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle initiatives, ensuring successful delivery.
  5. Operational Improvement and Documentation: Develop and maintain documentation, support process improvements, and contribute to the refinement of technical standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required
  • 6+ years’ relevant experience in one or more of the following:
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server OS, PowerShell, Information Security principles, SQL databases, and general networking
  • Server and virtualization administration (Hyper-V and/or VMware)
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange, Entra ID, SharePoint Online, Teams)
  • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and hybrid identity (AD Connect)
  • Experience with backup, recovery, and enterprise storage platforms
  • Experience with SharePoint administration and support (development experience preferred but not required)

 

Starting Salary Range: $90,000 - 105,000 per year

The selected candidate’s actual base pay for this role will take into account a wide range of non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate may not have been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
