Henry Ford Behavioral Health Hospital expands access to high-quality psychiatric care and supports the growing mental health needs of the Greater Detroit Metro area. We are currently seeking a Patient Account Representative to join our Business Office team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate and timely reimbursement for services provided, while supporting the financial health of the organization and a positive patient experience.

 

The Patient Account Representative is responsible for managing and resolving outstanding insurance claims and patient accounts to ensure accurate billing and optimal reimbursement. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to addressing claim discrepancies, while collaborating with internal teams to support efficient revenue cycle operations.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage and follow up on outstanding insurance claims to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement.
  • Review, correct, and resubmit claims through clearinghouse systems as needed.
  • Analyze EOBs and resolve discrepancies or payment issues.
  • Process account adjustments with proper documentation.
  • Meet daily productivity standards by working assigned accounts efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate account balances and financial classifications.
  • Compile reports, participate in AR meetings, and take proactive steps to resolve accounts.
  • Collaborate with Financial Counselors and leadership to address eligibility and reimbursement concerns.

 

Responsibilities

  • Review claims issues and make corrections as needed and rebill.
  • Utilize claims clearing house to review and correct claims. Resubmit electronically when available.
  • Review explanation of benefits to ascertain that claim processed and paid correctly.
  • Complete adjustment forms if any adjustments need to be made to an account and attach all supporting documentation.
  • Manage daily productivity via patient accounting system and productivity reports. Needs to maintain an average of 30-40 accounts worked per day minimum.
  • Prorate patient accounts and monitor that balance due is in the correct financial class.
  • Report an overview of the week to the BOD and participate in AR meetings.
  • Gather and interpret data from system and understands appropriate course of action to take and initiates time-sensitive and strategic steps resulting in payment.
  • Assist financial counselors as needed.
  • Alert Financial Counselors and Business Office Director of all benefit eligibility matters that suggest or challenge reimbursement.
