Reporting to the Superintendent – Contracts, the Senior Contract Administrator will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of contract administration, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating and managing commercial contracts for the mining operation, ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable regulations, and serving as a primary backup to the Superintendent – Contracts.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Contract Drafting and Review: Assist in preparing, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts for goods, services, construction, and equipment related to mining operations, ensuring terms align with company policies, risk tolerance, and legal requirements.
  • Contract Lifecycle Management: Administer the full contract lifecycle including execution, performance monitoring, variations, claims management, and close-out, while tracking key milestones, obligations, and deliverables.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure all contracts comply with internal policies, commercial standards, and British Columbia regulations (including the Mines Act); identify contractual risks and recommend mitigation strategies; support internal and external audits.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with procurement, operations, engineering, legal, and finance teams to gather requirements, provide commercial advice, and support decision-making on contracting strategies.
  • Contract Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate contract registers, files, and records; prepare regular reports on contract status, performance, risks, and commercial issues for management review.
  • Vendor and Commercial Management: Assist with vendor performance evaluation, relationship management, and resolution of commercial disputes or claims in a fair and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5–8 years in contract administration, commercial management, or procurement, with demonstrated experience supporting senior contracts or commercial roles; prior experience in mining, construction, or a capital-intensive industry is strongly preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of contract law principles, commercial terms and conditions, contract negotiation, and contract management systems; familiarity with standard forms used in mining and construction (e.g., equipment supply, services, EPC/EPCM) and ERP or contract management software.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Working knowledge of British Columbia-specific mining and commercial regulations, including the Mines Act and relevant procurement/contracting practices for resource companies.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, commerce, supply chain management, law, or a related field; professional designations such as SCMP, CPCM, or equivalent are considered an asset.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written skills for preparing contract documents, commercial reports, and collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., operations, engineering, and procurement); ability to explain complex commercial and contractual concepts in clear, practical terms.

     

  • Adaptability: Comfortable in a fast-paced mining environment, including potential site visits to remote locations in British Columbia, with flexibility to handle shifting priorities, urgent negotiations, and operational changes.
