The Associate Director, Education Abroad provides leadership for the Education Abroad Advising team and supports the strategic development, administration, and continuous improvement of Drexel University's education abroad programs. Reporting to the Senior Director of Education Abroad, the Associate Director supervises Education Abroad Advisors, oversees advising operations, develops policies and processes, and collaborates with campus and international partners to enhance the student experience. This position serves as the primary operational leader in the absence of the Senior Director.

The Associate Director is responsible for promoting education abroad opportunities to students and faculty; advising and supporting students before, during, and after their international experiences; administering a portfolio of education abroad programs and exchanges, including graduate and faculty led programs; and serving as a key resource on education abroad policies, academic processes, and institutional partnerships.

As a member of Drexel Global leadership team, the Associate Director advances strategic initiatives that improve operational efficiency, student participation, and academic integration of education abroad programs while representing Drexel Global across the university. 

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Education Abroad Advising team, fostering a collaborative, student centered culture.
  • Train advisors on education abroad advising, including program policies, nominations, course approvals, academic planning, international partnerships, and advising best practices.
  • Manage a portfolio of education abroad programs and international partner relationships.
  • Advise students on education abroad opportunities within an assigned regional portfolio. Guide students through program selection, applications, course approvals, transfer credit, financial aid, and pre-departure requirements. 
  • Identify and develop new education abroad partnerships that align with institutional priorities.
  • Lead initiatives to improve advising operations, processes, and student services.
  • Collaborate with the Registrar, Financial Aid, Academic Advising, and other campus partners to develop and implement education abroad policies and academic processes.
  • Support compliance with Course Program of Study (CPoS), transfer credit, transcript evaluation, and other academic regulations.
  • Support Senior Director with university strategic initiatives, including Academic Transformation and the transition of education abroad programs and operations to the semester calendar.
  • Represent Drexel Global on the University's Advising Leads Committee and other institutional committees, serving as a campus-wide advocate for education abroad.
  • Supervise execution of Drexel’s School of Record contractual responsibilities to process and issue transcripts for FIE and CSO.
  • Partner with the Senior Director to oversee the development, budgeting, logistics, academic planning, implementation, and assessment of Intensive Courses Abroad (ICAs), providing guidance and support to faculty throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Train and support faculty throughout the ICA planning and implementation lifecycle.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for ICA related matters in absence of Senior Director.
  • Support implementation of health, safety, and risk management practices for students abroad.
  • Respond to international emergencies and participate in the education abroad on-call rotation as needed, including serving in the absence of the Senior Director for Health, Safety, and Security.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission of Drexel Global.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
  • Domestic and international travel may be required.
  • Hybrid office schedule (typically 3 days office, 2 days virtual).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in International Education, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, preferably in education abroad or international education. 
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, and developing advising staff.
  • Experience in student advising with a strong understanding of academic planning and student support.
  • Experience developing, administering, and evaluating education abroad programs, including faculty led and exchange programs.
  • Familiarity with program budgets and fiscal aspects of student programming.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining international institutional partnerships.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty and cross-functional university partners, including the Registrar, Financial Aid, Academic Advising, and Institutional Advancement.
  • Knowledge of U.S. higher education regulations and policies related to education abroad, including transfer credit, financial aid, and federal academic polices.
  • Knowledge of international health, safety, security, and risk management best practices.
  • Experience leading operational improvements and policy development.
  • Proficiency with Terra Dotta, Banner, and/or comparable student information systems.
  • Strong project management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and international partners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success, inclusive advising practices, and expanding equitable access to education abroad opportunities.
  • Experience living, working, or studying abroad, with substantive knowledge of international higher education systems and intercultural communication.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and respond effectively to urgent or emergency situations.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade L. Compensation for this grade ranges from $ 69,070.00 to $ 103,600.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position will vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
