OtherSystem Engineer

An exciting career opportunity exists for a Mid-level ID&C engineer with primary responsibility for developing, custom configuring, upgrading and maintaining:

  • Sensors and data acquisition systems for measuring various aspects of aerospace systems’ performance while undergoing ground testing at simulated flight conditions. Typical measurements include force, strain, pressure, temperature, vibration, acceleration, acoustics, etc.
  • Facility and process control systems to measure and sustain test conditions
  • Signal processing techniques of high bandwidth data sets

ID&C Engineers employ the concepts of electronics; sensor selection and calibration; signal conditioning; analog-to-digital conversion; analog and digital signal processing; and data acquisition, storage and processing to design, implement, operate and/or maintain systems that acquire highly complex and accurate measurements required to characterize test article performance while undergoing ground test and evaluation. ID&C engineers also apply equations of motion and process control theory to custom configure and implement facility and process control systems required to control test conditions and processes

ID&C Engineers at AEDC are critical to the execution of the test mission.  Specifically, duties for this Mid-level position include:

  • Perform work, generally within Instrumentation, Data, and Control System Engineering, which involves the preparation, interpretation or review of calculations, specifications, plans, investigations, surveys, structures, systems or equipment with relatively few complex features
  • Participate in one or more of the following:
    • Interface with DoD Client and external test customer to receive and document test peculiar ID&C System requirements
    • Design, custom configuration, application and support of sensors and data acquisition and processing systems in preparation for and during active aerospace ground test operations.
    • Design, custom configuration, application and support of control systems in preparation for and during active aerospace ground test operations
    • Ensure system and sensor calibrations are adequate to meet test customer requirements
    • System troubleshooting and return-to-service
    • Preparation of specifications and design calculations
    • System design, including concept sketches and layouts
    • Preparing designs, drawings and data under the supervision of a more experienced engineer
    • Preparation of engineering studies and reports
    • Preparation of material quantity estimates
    • Uses computer aided design/computer aided engineering (CAD/CAE) tools
    • System Verification and Validation during Test Development/Execution
    • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, under the mentorship of senior engineering staff
    • Perform assignments, which have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables for Control System Engineering; supports the use of common work processes and procedures within assigned function across the TOS contract.
    • Draft letters for replies to vendor correspondence
    • Monitor and meet applicable work schedules
    • Reviewing design documents of equipment manufacturers or subcontractors of a low to moderate degree of complexity and prepare comments and recommendations
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy
  • Perform other related duties as required
