WJCF's programme portfolio spans thematic areas like hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, vector-borne diseases, syphilis, cervical cancer, diabetes, maternal and childhood anaemia, immunisation, under-5 diarrhoea and pneumonia, sexual and reproductive health, Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), hypoxemia and oxygen, safe drinking water, sickle cell disease, presbyopia, lead poisoning, and cross-cutting thematic areas like AI and Health, integrated disease surveillance, and climate and health.

Launched nation-wide in September 2021, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) seeks to power India's quest for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by creating the interoperability required for health information and records to be exchanged seamlessly across digital platforms, leading over time to improved access, quality and affordability of health services. Central to ABDM is the concept of a health account (Ayushman Bharat Health Account, or ABHA), which lets an individual link and consent-share their health records across ABDM-enabled systems. The National Health Authority (NHA), an attached office of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with full functional autonomy, manages the implementation of ABDM as well as the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), the world's largest publicly funded health-assurance scheme.
ABDM has seen tremendous progress, with over 94 crore ABHAs created and large numbers of facilities and professionals registered on the Health Facility Registry (HFR) and the Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR). With 500 health systems and apps ABDM-enabled, and the introduction of platforms powered by ABDM such as the Unified Health Interface (UHI) and National Health Claims Exchanged (NHCX) being introduced, the health ecosystem in India is poised to fully leverage ABDM’s potential. As the ecosystem matures, the NHA's priority is shifting towards streamlining and scaling adoption and integration, and towards using artificial intelligence (AI) to do so. Several linked tracks, such as the ones mentioned below, are now taking shape:
- Agentic AI for onboarding and registration. Building AI-enabled and agentic workflows that simplify and automate ABHA creation, HPR and HFR registration to reduce friction and accelerating onboarding at scale.
- Sandbox 2.0. A new, next-generation NHA sandbox designed to streamline the ABDM integration and NHCX integration process through AI-enabled workflows, making it faster and easier for health systems and applications to integrate with ABDM and NHCX ecosystems.
WJCF has been supporting the operationalization and roll-out of ABDM since 2021, working closely with and under the guidance of the NHA. To help the NHA move quickly on these AI-enabled integration priorities, WJCF now intends to embed dedicated technical capacity within the NHA. All of this work must be delivered with privacy-by-design and strong health data governance, consistent with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act 2023.
WJCF is looking to hire a Digital Health Integration Specialist to support and help drive the Applied AI for Digital Health Integration track, embedded within the NHA and supporting its central technology and integration agenda across multiple, fast-moving workstreams. This is a hands-on, technical role for someone who takes strong ownership of their work while collaborating closely with, and drawing support from, the wider WJCF team already embedded at the NHA. The individual will contribute to technical tracks aimed towards driving ABDM adoption, such as agentic AI workflows for ABHA creation, HPR and HFR registration; ABDM and NHCX Sandbox revamp, among others.
We seek an exceptional and dynamic technologist with strong credentials in AI and data science and a good understanding of the DPDP Act 2023 and health data governance. The ideal candidate combines deep technical skill with the ability to translate policy and functional requirements into working solutions, takes ownership of their tasks, and works well within a team in ambiguous and high-pressure environments. This position is based out of the NHA office in New Delhi, so that the individual stays closely aligned with the NHA's immediate priorities and the rapidly evolving digital health landscape.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for individuals who would like to be at the heart of, and directly shape, the application of AI to India's fast-moving digital health journey.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Contribute to the design, prototyping, and deployment of agentic AI workflows that streamline and automate ABHA creation, HPR and HFR registration.
- →Support the technical conceptualisation and build-out of Sandbox 2.0, a next-generation sandbox that streamlines the ABDM integration and NHCX integration process through AI-enabled workflows, contributing to its architecture, AI components, and integration approach.
- →Support dedicated technical tracks to leverage potential of ABDM basis alignment with the NHA leadership.
- →Evaluate, prototype, and productionise AI, machine-learning, large-language-model, and agentic solutions; define solution architectures, data pipelines, and integration patterns; and set standards for reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
- →Embed privacy-by-design and strong health data governance across all workflows, ensuring alignment with the DPDP Act 2023 and applicable ABDM standards, including consent, data minimisation, and anonymisation.
- →Support the preparation of technical specifications, scope-of-work documents, and requests for proposals (RFPs), and provide technical evaluation and oversight of partners, integrators, and vendors.
- →Provide agile technical support across multiple digital health tracks as prioritised by the NHA, moving fluidly between initiatives as needs evolve.
- →Document approaches, decisions, and learnings, and help build lasting institutional capability within the NHA.
- →Perform other responsibilities as requested by WJCF and NHA leadership.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence or machine learning, engineering, or a closely related field.
- 5 or more years of experience in AI, machine learning, data science, or software engineering, including hands-on delivery of AI or data-driven solutions into production.
- Demonstrated experience with applied AI, such as large language models, agentic AI workflows, or end-to-end machine-learning pipelines.
- Familiarity with APIs and microservices, sandbox or developer-integration environments.
- Proven performance in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
Nice to Have
~1 min read- Experience with digital public infrastructure, ABDM, or large-scale government or e-governance technology programs in India.
- Familiarity with verifiable credentials, or distributed and append-only ledgers.
- Prior exposure to health data, the digital health ecosystem, or regulated-data environments.
- Good understanding of the DPDP Act 2023 and health data governance, including consent, privacy, data minimisation, and anonymisation.
- Strong, hands-on technical skills in Python and modern AI, machine-learning, and LLM or agentic frameworks, with a solid grasp of data engineering, APIs, and cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure).
- Hands-on experience with data pipeline/ETL (e.g., Airflow, dbt, or equivalent) and in version control and collaborative engineering practices (e.g., Git, code review, automated testing).
- Ability to translate policy and functional requirements into technical designs and working systems, and to reason about trade-offs in speed, accuracy, resilience, and cost.
- Strong system design and architecture ability, including failure modes, statefulness, scalability, and security boundaries, to take solutions from prototype to production-ready at scale rather than stopping at rapid prototyping.
- Excellent analytical (qualitative and quantitative) and communication (written and verbal) skills.
- Ability to think strategically, handle ambiguity, and problem-solve in a fast-paced, limited-structure, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Impeccable integrity; humility and open-mindedness; a learning mentality; tenacity and resourcefulness.
- Willingness to speak up, and then to commit once a decision is taken.
- Fluency in English. Fluency in Hindi or an additional Indian language is an advantage.
