Utility Worker II -KPRC, Temp Part Time, Up to 18 Months

Located on Vancouver Island just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is in the ancestral and unceded territories of First Nations including the Quw'utsun, Malahat, Ts'uubaa-asatx, Halalt, Penelakut, Stz'uminus, Lyackson, Pauquachin, Ditidaht, and Pacheedaht Nations. Local First Nations Peoples have stewarded the lands, waters, plants, and animals of this region since beyond time immemorial. The CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 95,000. The picturesque Cowichan Valley offers a warm climate and numerous parks, recreational, cultural, and social opportunities such as majestic mountains, the rugged West Coast Trail, serene lakes, and one of the world’s tallest free-standing timber rail trestles.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates as a temporary part time, Utility Worker II (KPRC), up to 18 months, in the South Cowichan Section of the Facilities Division within the Community Services Department. Reporting to the Manager – Facility Operations (South Cowichan) , the Utility Worker II is responsible for the cleanliness, sanitation, housekeeping and maintenance of the facilities and grounds. Main duties include cleaning, room and equipment set-ups and tear-downs, ice and facilities maintenance, grounds work, sports field facility maintenance, and incidental security work.

• Secondary School graduation or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience in cleaning, housekeeping and facility and grounds maintenance is required. One (1) year of experience working in a trade (carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing etc.) is also required.
• A Refrigeration Operator Certificate
• Occupational First Aid Level 1 or equivalent
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
• WHMIS certification -- provided by the employer
• Ice Facility Operator Certificate would be an asset
• Building Service Worker Certificate would be an asset
• Ice Making Courses would be an asset

Guaranteed 20 hours of work per week. Due to the nature of the work, it will be necessary to work a variety of shifts including days, nights on weekdays and weekends.

Wage rate in 2 steps as per the Collective Agreement between the CVRD and CUPE Local 358, is $36.66 - $37.77 per hour with Refrigeration Operator Certificate (2026 rates).  Benefits are included as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
