Student Involvement Specialist

The Student Involvement Specialist leads co-curricular involvement designed to enhance student learning outside the classroom. This is accomplished through a comprehensive co-curricular program of both in-person and virtual student learning initiatives designed to increase student interaction, develop community, celebrate diversity, promote civic engagement, develop soft skills/career readiness, and enhance leadership development.

Responsibilities:

• →Coordinate and implement a comprehensive college-wide co-curricular engagement program that promotes consistent, high-quality student learning, belonging, community engagement, and involvement opportunities across all CVTC campuses.
• →Partner with college programs, departments and student leaders to promote meaningful engagement, strengthen student leadership development, and create opportunities for students to build connection and belonging through involvement.
• →Contribute to the planning, coordination, and promotion of comprehensive student involvement programs that support student learning, leadership, diversity, financial literacy, civic engagement, and social connection.
• →Align student involvement initiatives with College Core Abilities and Student Journey learning outcomes by developing assessment tools, tracking participation and event data, and preparing year-end reports to evaluate outcomes and support continuous improvement.
• →Support first year experience programming aligned to the student journey that fosters a vibrant community for all students.
• →Support the monitoring of allocated student activity fee budgets and contribute to the responsible stewardship of student-generated funds.
• →In coordination with the marketing team, develop and execute marketing and communication strategies that promote student involvement programs, services, events, and engagement opportunities through multiple communication platforms.
• →Collaborate with external organizations and local and national speakers/entertainers to facilitate involvement in campus activities.
• →Collaborate with IT, Finance, Facilities, Public Safety, Risk Management, Cashier’s office, and other areas of the college to develop procedures that impact student involvement.
• →Coordinate programmatic offerings and student engagement initiatives for CVTC students residing in university housing.
• →Assist in the coordination for New Student Orientation/Welcome Day/Commencement ceremonies.
• →Foster a sense of belonging for students connecting them to each other, the college, and local community.
• →Serve as a liaison between CVTC students, faculty, and staff to promote student involvement opportunities and enhance communication, collaboration, and engagement across the college.
• →Support the creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of content on CVTC's internal student-facing webpage and online learning management system.
• →Knowledge of and commitment to student development to create a supportive environment that focuses on student learning.
• →Serve on College committees to support the College mission.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• →Ability to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends and travel throughout CVTC’s 11-county district and the state for various events.
• → Ability to model integrity through self-awareness, personal accountability, ethical behavior, quality standards, and sustainable practices.
• →Ability to think critically by applying problem solving practices, acquiring relevant information, using technology and other resources appropriately, and evaluating alternatives.
• →Ability to communicate effectively by speaking and writing clearly, concisely, and professionally; practicing active listening; reading critically and adapting communication for audience.
• →Ability to recognize personal biases, adapt to different cultural situations, and demonstrate a commitment to respectful interactions with persons of various ethnic, cultural, socio-economic, or educational backgrounds.
• →Intermediate knowledge of and skills with technology including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision making including, but not limited to, Office 365 Suite, Canvas, Qualtrics, and Google Drive.

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, School Counseling, Higher Education, or related field with a minimum of two years of related experience required; master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Leadership, or related field preferred.
• Experience in college student development, student programming, student group advising, and working with diverse populations preferred.
• Post-secondary experience preferred.
