Minimum Qualifications and Skills: EDUCATION: Completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification; RMA or CMA required. Completion of BLS or other approved CPR courses required with recertification every 2 years.
This is a full-time position for a Medical Assistant within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, providing outpatient care to patients and supporting physicians across all clinical areas of the practice. The role is responsible for assisting providers and nurses with patient examinations, ensuring efficient operations and high-quality, patient-centered care.
This position is primarily based out of the Norfolk office location, however travel will be required to all office locations and throughout all divisions to meet the department’s demands.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Assist physicians, providers, and nurses in the daily care of patients.
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
- Obtain and record vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure.
- Draw blood and administer injections under the supervision of a Physician or Registered Nurse.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
- Chaperone and assist during office procedures, and diagnostic tests.
- Maintain clean, well-equipped examination rooms; clean and sterilize instruments.
- Stock examination rooms and triage areas with necessary medical supplies.
- Sterilize equipment per manufactured guidelines.
- Prepare patient education packets and folders.
- Prepare charts for upcoming appointments; create new patient charts and verify referrals and authorizations prior to visits.
- Ensure all necessary data—such as labs, medical records, and imaging—are available before appointments.
- Create and update prenatal lab forms in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Obtain labs, clinic notes, inpatient records, and specialty reports from referring providers.
- Obtain records from referring physicians, hospitals, laboratories, emergency departments, and radiology facilities.
- Obtain referrals and schedule outside appointments with specialists as directed.
- Document all patient information accurately in the EMR.
- Monitor and complete EMR tasks daily.

EXPERIENCE:
- At least one (1) year of clinical experience in a fast-paced ambulatory setting is preferred.
- Women’s health experience preferred.
