Pharmacy Technician III - Investigational Drug Services

The Pharmacy Technician III operational functions of pharmacy technicians as required for the specific role. The pharmacy technician III independently performs a variety of technical pharmaceutical functions which may include compounding medications, preparing prescriptions, performing order entry, ordering medications, prior authorization of patient specific therapies, and internal auditing. This position will work with stakeholders inside and outside of the pharmacy department to complete crucial and complex tasks relating to patient care, financial and billing practices, or regulatory compliance.

 

Working under the immediate supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician III is a IDS pharmacy position which interacts with patients, research coordinators, research managers, sponsors, and health care providers to perform a variety of technical pharmaceutical tasks including preparing intravenous admixtures, process and fill prescriptions, maintain the electronic medical record, maintain accurate drug accountability, deliver medications to nursing areas and patients, assists in maintaining pharmacy stock and ensures no expired medications are in the IDS pharmacy by following the inventory control process.

 

This is a Full-Time role working Monday thru Friday at our South Lake Union campus.

• →Performs complex and unique duties within the pharmacy department
• →Interpret, evaluate, and summarize information and datasets of varying sizes
• →Communicate effectively and professionally with stakeholder inside and outside of pharmacy department
• →Develop and maintain internal (within Fred Hutch) and external relationships (such as vendors, payors, distributors)
• →Work independently and within teams to complete tasks
• →Documentation information or results in clear and concise ways
• →Generate and present reports of tasks to Pharmacy Operations Manager or Director of Pharmacy
• →Prepare, package and label medication in an accurate and efficient manner
• →Charging and billing functions
• →Operate CII safe and follows all controlled substance procedures
• →Filling and documentation of Pyxis
• →Monitor stock for expiration dates, removes outdated medications, and completes documentation.Conducts physical counts of IP and resolves any discrepancies
• →Manage inventory for IP, including independently ordering IP, within scope of authority, receiving, organizing, and monitoring the use of IP, communicating with sponsors and following IDS destruction policy when applicable
• →Delivery of patient specific medications to CTU, infusion, or other areas of the clinic
• →Perform internal audits of IP dispensing records and helps resolve discrepancies
• →Assist in identifying problems and suggest improvements
• →Assist in implementation of quality initiatives and improvements
• →Provide education to other staff for protocol-specific processes
• →Maintain separate supplies of returned IP from patients for trials that have this requirement
• →Assist and participates in team and departmental planning with other pharmacy staff
• →Other pharmacy related duties in accordance with regulations under Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission                                                                     

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current Washington state pharmacy technician certification
• 2 years pharmacy technician experience
• Proficient in Microsoft suite
• Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner
• Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical calculations
• Ability to use a mouse, navigate computer programs, enter data into computer systems accurately and efficiently
• Accurate and aseptic IV admixture
• Familiar with the sponsor-given names, generic names of drugs along with their basic indication

• Bachelor’s degree
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a dynamic work environment
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
• Knowledge of computers, and pharmacy technology and automation systems
• Knowledge of the health care environment and electronic medical records
• Data Analytics and/or Excel

As a condition of employment Fred Hutch conducts pre-employment drug testing for this pharmacy role. All offers of employment in the pharmacy department are conditional on the applicant successfully completing and passing a drug test in accordance with the Fred Hutch policy. 

The hourly pay range for this position is from $35.09 to $52.63 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.   This is a Full-Time role working Monday thru Friday at our South Lake Union campus. Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
