Peraton is seeking an experienced Audio Visual Engineering Technician to serve as a senior technical architect and project manager for video and audiovisual operations supporting the Department of Energy (DOE). This role exercises independent judgment and discretion in architecting video conferencing solutions, creating technical designs for conference room build-outs, and project managing complex AV infrastructure initiatives from conception through delivery. The specialist leads site surveys with technical customers, independently assessing facility requirements, evaluating design options, and developing engineering solutions that meet organizational needs. This position combines advanced technical architecture expertise with project management responsibilities, requiring the ability to independently make design decisions, manage vendor relationships, and deliver integrated AV solutions for high-visibility federal environments. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical design expertise, demonstrated project management skills, and the ability to independently drive complex initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

  • Architect end-to-end video conferencing and AV solutions for DOE facilities, independently evaluating technology options, designing system configurations, and developing technical specifications that meet organizational requirements.
  • Create technical designs for conference room build-outs, including system architecture diagrams, equipment specifications, cabling schemas, acoustic requirements, and integration plans.
  • Exercise independent engineering judgment in selecting appropriate technologies, determining system topologies, and resolving design conflicts between competing requirements (e.g., security, usability, budget, facility constraints).
  • Develop room configuration standards and design templates based on independent analysis of organizational usage patterns, technology capabilities, and facility characteristics.
  • Design system configurations that integrate video, audio, display, control, and network components into cohesive solutions; independently determine appropriate architectures for varying room types and use cases.
  • Research and evaluate emerging video technologies; independently assess applicability to DOE environment and develop technical recommendations for adoption.
  • Lead site surveys with technical DOE customers, independently assessing facility conditions, gathering requirements, identifying constraints, and developing preliminary design concepts during customer engagements.
  • Lead room build-out and technology refresh initiatives, developing project plans, managing scope, schedule, and budget; coordinating with vendors, facilities, and IT teams; and reporting status to program leadership.
  • Conduct independent requirements analysis for new installations; translate customer operational needs into technical specifications and design requirements.
  • Manage procurement processes for video equipment, independently determining specifications, evaluating vendor options, and making purchasing recommendations based on technical and financial analysis.
  • Manage inventory and asset tracking for video equipment; independently determine lifecycle replacement strategies and technology refresh schedules.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive system documentation, including as-built drawings, configuration records, and design specifications.
  • Perform system testing and validation; independently determine acceptance criteria and conduct quality assurance reviews.
  • Support security reviews and certification processes; provide technical input on AV system security architecture.
  • Establish processes, standards, and technical architectures for virtual/hybrid events at DOE; independently determining appropriate production approaches based on event scope, audience, and technical requirements.
  • Coordinate with program office POCs, external presenters, labs, and vendors; exercise independent judgment in resolving conflicting requirements and determining production approaches.
  • Schedule and conduct multiple dry runs for events; independently assess readiness and determine whether to proceed or require additional preparation.
  • Independently troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues during rehearsals and live events, making real-time decisions on alternative approaches when primary systems fail.
  • Conduct post-event assessments, capture lessons learned and independently develop process improvements and SOP updates based on analysis of event performance.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot video conferencing equipment and systems; apply architectural understanding to diagnose systemic issues vs. isolated equipment failures.
  • Provide Tier 3 incident support, applying deep technical expertise to resolve complex issues that cannot be addressed by lower-tier support.
  • Perform preventative maintenance based on independent assessment of system health indicators and lifecycle considerations.
  • Provide expert consultation to DOE customers on video conferencing architecture, technology options, and best practices, independently advising on solution approaches.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for end-users on video conferencing systems and event processes.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and technical support during events.
