Virginia Highway Lead

VHB is seeking a Virginia Highway Lead to join our growing Transportation team across Virginia. In this leadership role, you’ll help shape the future of mobility throughout the Commonwealth by leading complex VDOT roadway and interstate improvement projects that enhance connectivity, safety, and long-term community resilience. Working alongside a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, you’ll drive innovative transportation solutions across Richmond, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Tysons Corner, and the greater DC metro region.

With a strong focus on VDOT transportation design and Design-Build project delivery, this role supports major transportation initiatives including interstate corridor improvements, multimodal infrastructure, and large-scale highway design programs throughout Virginia.

• →Serve as Project Manager and Technical Lead on VDOT transportation design and interstate corridor projects across Virginia
• →Support Design-Build pursuits and project delivery, coordinating closely with contractor partners to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions
• →Lead, grow, and support VDOT transportation contracts and strategic pursuits, including opportunities within the I-81 corridor and statewide infrastructure programs
• →Mentor junior engineers and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams to ensure high-quality and timely project delivery
• →Provide technical leadership in highway design, geometric layout, grading, drainage, and VDOT standards compliance
• →Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including VDOT, municipalities, contractors, and private-sector clients
• →Support business development and strategic growth initiatives through client engagement, proposal development, and pursuit strategy
• →Contribute to the continued expansion of VHB’s transportation practice across Richmond, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Tysons Corner, and Metro DC markets
• →Oversee project budgets, schedules, quality control, and client communication throughout all phases of project delivery

• BS in Civil Engineering required; MS preferred
• Virginia PE license required
• 11+ years of progressive transportation engineering experience with a focus on VDOT roadway design and interstate corridor projects
• Demonstrated experience managing Design-Build transportation projects preferred
• Strong knowledge of VDOT standards, procedures, and digital delivery requirements
• DBIA certification or willingness to obtain
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage budgets and schedules, and deliver high-quality transportation solutions
• Strong communication, client relationship management, and business development skills

The full-time annual base salary range for this position is $135,000 to $200,000 if located in Virginia and Metro DC area. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.

Annual base salary is one component of VHB’s Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
