Patients in the Electrophysiology & Cardiac Catheterization Lab are cared for by a multidisciplinary team including Registered Nurses, Registered Radiologic Technologists, Interventional Cardiologists, and Electrophysiologists. Procedures in the Electrophysiology (EP) Lab are performed from pediatrics to geriatrics that include, but not limited to: diagnostic EP studies, atrial flutter/fib ablations, PVC ablations, SVT ablations, VT ablations, temp pacer, Watchman, Lariat, loop recorders, and implanted pacemakers/defibrillators. Patients require continuous cardiac monitoring and frequent physician, nursing and technologist intervention.
The Electrophysiology (EP) Technologist’s primary role is to assist EP medical staff with the performance of invasive electrophysiology procedures. The EP Technologist provides technical assistance for arrhythmia procedures, including implantation and programming of arrhythmia control devices (pacemakers and defibrillators), electrophysiology studies, and arrhythmia ablations.
The department is open Monday through Friday from 6:45am - 5:15pm for routine, urgent, and emergent cases. Outpatient procedures are also performed at the Center for Health and Healing Building 2, Multispecialty Procedure Unit (MSPU). Staff are expected to work in both locations. An on-call team is available 7 days a week for all cases after routine hours of operation.
- Provide technical assistance for arrhythmia procedures, including implantation of arrhythmia control devices (pacemakers and defibrillators), electrophysiology studies, and arrhythmia ablations. Duties include pre-procedure planning and device procurement and coordination, gathering background patient and technical data, ensuring the accuracy, adequacy, and quality of monitoring of physiologic signals and data, gathering and storing of clinical data during the procedure including data forms for clinical study protocols, and providing necessary clinical reports after procedures.
- The EP technologist must act as a resource person during procedures and provide troubleshooting, access to vendor data if necessary, assess the technical quality, accuracy, and safety of procedures to include scrubbing and assisting during procedure if necessary. This position oversees the development, implementation, integration, and evaluation of effectiveness of EP patient protocols and outcomes in the Cardiac Cath Lab assisting in successful maintenance and completion of the hemodynamic log if necessary. The EP technologist may cross-train to provide case support in the Cardiac Cath Lab in roles that align with their experience and skill set.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to determine needs for data storage and report generation. Develop and maintain database systems for use in storing clinical data on patients, procedures, and implant data.
- Assist faculty and fellowship personnel preparation of data for conference presentations. Provider presentation graphics services for faculty and staff. Assist cardiology ITG support in computer training, troubleshooting, upgrading, and set up.
Requirements

One year of experience working in a cardiac Cath lab environment;
Attainment of RCES within 1 year of hire;
Positions within person patient care: BLS certificate within 30 days of hire or prior to independent practice, whichever comes first;
Successful completion ACLSand PALS within six months of hire.

- Must be able to ride the aerial tram and work in two locations between OHSU Marquam Hill and CHH2.
- Ability to lift, bend, stoop, reach, carry, push, pull and walk throughout the work period. Able to lift 50lbs independently. Complies with the safe patient mobilization policy when lifting or positioning dependent patients, including using mechanical lifts and coordinating the assistance of other personnel.

- The work environment carries risk of exposure to human tissue/fluids and radiation.

- Use of all hospital approved clinical equipment. Significant use of computers, copiers, multi-line phones, and fax.
