We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills to join our team as the Accounts Receivable Specialist. In this role, you will contribute to the trusted CARFAX brand by supporting our internal and external customers with a variety of accounting functions, including escalated billing issues, payment application and research, and account reconciliation. This position reports to the Accounts Receivable Manager.
At CARFAX, we believe in the power of teamwork and value in-person interactions so that we can collaborate and thrive together. This position will require 3 days a week in our Centreville, VA office subject to change with future business needs. Our office will be moving to Reston, VA in 2026!
As a Senior Accounts Receivable Specialist you will:
  • Collaborate with internal and external business partners to ensure timely resolution of account issues
  • Perform analysis of the Accounts Receivable Aging to identify trends
  • Investigate billing discrepancies by collaborating with sales, account management and billing teams.
  • Document all collection activities, calls, and status updates related to the detailed aging reporting.
  • Prepare documentation related to uncollectible accounts and relay necessary information to our third party collection agency.
  • Proactively address account issues with a sense of urgency.
  • Oversee case queues related to internal and external customer inquiries and escalations.
  • Process high volume payment application through manual and automated processes.
  • Use problem-solving and multitasking skills to quickly identify and resolve account issues while meeting department goals,
  • Collaborate with a team of enthusiastic professionals to minimize aging / bad debt.
  • Perform complex collections activities on outstanding customer accounts.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.
      What we're looking for:
      • 5+ years of accounts receivable experience and demonstrated success with account reconciliation and reporting
      • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred
      • Experience using Netsuite and Salesforce preferred
      • Experience with collection of overdue accounts
      • Microsoft Office skills; strong proficiency in  Excel, must be proficient with pivot tables, advanced formulas, and data analysis tools
      • Ability to be self- directed, detail-oriented, customer-focused, organized, and able to work in a team-oriented environment
      • Strong research, analytical, and reporting skills
      • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with keen attention to detail
      • Knowledge of general accounting principles, regulatory standards and compliance requirements

          The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $48,000 - $92,000. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on a variety of factors, including geographic location, relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

          Carfax is committed to providing competitive compensation that reflects local market conditions and individual contributions. In addition to base salary, employees may be eligible for incentive compensation, long-term incentives, and a comprehensive benefits package, where applicable.
