The Opportunity 

Catalyst Consulting Group is seeking a Business Intelligence & Reporting Analyst to support a large-scale public safety technology environment in the Chicagoland area. This client-facing role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining reporting solutions that provide actionable insights for operational and executive decision-making. 

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Microsoft Power BI, experience working with complex datasets, and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, software vendors, and client leadership. In addition to Power BI development, this role will support reporting and analytics platforms including CrimeView/FireView (SISANCE) and SAM Reporting (BOLD Reports). 

This position requires a professional who is highly organized, adaptable, solutions-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment supporting mission-critical public safety operations. 

This position is a short-term contracted roleapproximately 16-20 weeks in length beginning in August 2026. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Partner with client stakeholders and project teams to gather, document, and refine reporting and analytics requirements. 
  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards, reports, and data models using Microsoft Power BI. 
  • Translate business and operational requirements into meaningful visualizations and actionable insights. 
  • Develop and optimize data models, ETL processes, and reporting datasets to improve performance and data integrity. 
  • Integrate data from multiple systems and sources to support comprehensive reporting and analysis. 
  • Troubleshoot reporting issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions. 
  • Support and administer CrimeView/FireView (SISANCE) and SAM Reporting (BOLD Reports) environments. 
  • Develop and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, and data extraction processes. 
  • Collaborate with technical teams to establish reporting standards, governance practices, and documentation. 
  • Conduct user training sessions and provide ongoing support for reporting tools and dashboards. 
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and recommend enhancements to reporting capabilities. 
  • Stay current on emerging business intelligence technologies, reporting best practices, and visualization trends. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field; comparable experience may be considered. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Reporting Development, or a similar role. 
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Power BI, including report development, dashboard creation, DAX, and data modeling. 
  • Strong understanding of data visualization principles and best practices. 
  • Experience writing and optimizing SQL queries for data retrieval and analysis. 
  • Knowledge of data integration, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts. 
  • Demonstrated ability to gather business requirements and convert them into effective reporting solutions. 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic client-facing environment. 

It’d be even better if you had 

  • Experience with SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS). 
  • Experience supporting public safety, government, or municipal technology environments. 
  • Familiarity with CrimeView/FireView (SISANCE). 
  • Familiarity with SAM Reporting (BOLD Reports). 
  • Experience with additional business intelligence and visualization platforms. 
  • Microsoft Power BI certification or other relevant analytics certifications.

Work Location 

  • Must be based in the Chicagoland area. 
  • This is a hybrid position and will require regular attendance at client facilities and collaboration with project teams. Applicants should anticipate working at least 3 days per week in person.
  • Occasional after-hours support may be required to support reporting deployments, upgrades, or operational needs.
