PRN RN - Acute Care Cardiac Telemetry and Complex Medical

Akron General’s 7100 unit is a high acuity cardiac telemetry and med/surg unit. This fast-paced unit cares for patients who require extensive ADL assistance, high-risk fall patients and patients with pneumonia, FTT, weakness, confusion, sepsis, PEG care, central lines, multiple antibiotic therapies, blood transfusions, IV push/cardiac drip titration medications and tracheostomies. The unit typically carries 23-28 high risk fall patients. As an RN on the team, you will utilize your nursing skills to enhance the Cleveland Clinic experience and the lives of patients and their families. A PRN caregiver in this position works varying days and hours. Working a minimum of 48 hours per 6-week period will be required. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Provide direct nursing care. 

• Implement and monitor patient care plans.  

• Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. 

• Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.  

• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.  

• Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs. 

• Maintain professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program) 

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 

• External applicants: two years of recent related nursing experience  

• Internal applicants: less than two years of experience, but post orientation/90-day probationary period considered with the Chief Nursing Officer approval for internal applicants  

• Will consider licensed military RN experience 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) 

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
