In alignment with Our Community, this role exists within a highly collaborative, cross-pollinated environment, where flexibility, shared responsibility, and teamwork across departments are essential. Divemaster Interns support not only diving activities, but also the broader educational mission of The Island School by engaging with students, staff, and community initiatives as needed.

This position combines in-water training, operational support, and professional skill development while completing—or working toward—PADI Divemaster certification requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a positive role model for students, demonstrating safe, responsible, and environmentally conscious diving practices
  • Participate in daily briefings, trainings, and operational meetings
  • Collaborate with staff across programs, age groups, and departments as needed to support student learning and community initiatives
  • Apply additional certifications or skills (e.g., scuba professional ratings, first aid, boating, outdoor education) to support Island School programming beyond core dive duties when appropriate

Learning Outcomes

  • Gain real-world experience assisting certified scuba instructors in an educational setting
  • Develop leadership, communication, and risk-management skills in a dynamic, team-based environment
  • Build confidence supervising divers and supporting complex dive operations
  • Gain exposure to dive center operations, scheduling, safety systems, and educational programming
  • Progress toward or complete PADI Divemaster certification requirements (if applicable)

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a close-knit, team-oriented community

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry scuba equipment
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to participate in multiple dives per day as scheduled

Schedule & Commitment
