POSITION DESCRIPTION:
CHIRLA is looking for a compassionate, purpose-driven individual to join their Humanitarian Department as an Afghan Services Assistant.
In this role, they will be responsible for coordinating and ensuring efficient and quality delivery of Afghan community services to Afghan nationals who arrived as part of Operation Allies Welcome. The Afghan Services Assistant will work closely with case workers to provide comprehensive support services that address the immediate and long-term needs of our clients. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who thrives in a team environment, has strong communication skills, is highly adaptable, and has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those who arrived at the U.S. as part of OAW.

FLSA Classification: Part-Time Hourly
Classification: CHIRLA recognizes a staff bargaining unit affiliated with AFSCME Local 4501. This position is not included in CHIRLA’s bargaining unit and covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
REPORTS TO: Resettlement Manager
CLOSING DATE OF THIS POSITION: Position will remain open until filled

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides direct support to CHIRLA’s Afghan Community Services team, assisting them overcome logistical hurdles in the administration of client services.
- Plan & facilitate culturally and gender appropriate group sessions, webinars and orientations in person and remotely.
- Conduct individual needs assessments and group evaluations
- Create individual self-sufficiency plans with participants
- Monitor client progress towards goals through each group session
- Provide workshops in Dari and/or Pashto or arrange interpretation for group sessions
- Arrange community partner presentations to support group learning objectives
- Identify and enroll candidates for group programming document through case notes group participation and attendance with a focus on achieving goals
- Previous work with immigrants and refugees strongly preferred.
- Strong communication skills and ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to follow ACS guidelines and procedures to support deliverables
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, to include active listening, developing rapport and resolving conflict. Ability to case note in a timely manner.
- Previous experience facilitating group programming desired requirements
- Committed to the mission, vision, and values of CHIRLA. Desire to serve and empower community Afghan members
- Ability to work in cross-cultural settings. Knowledge of cultural sensitivities and norms.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, or related discipline is preferred.
- Combination of education, experience and values must be in line with the mission of CHIRLA by serving with dignity and compassion and without bias.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Familiar with public social services and local resources in Los Angeles County.
- Experience in working with diverse immigrant communities, community advocacy, and organizing
- Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must be fluent in English and Dari and/or Pashto.
- Must have strong technical skills to navigate interpretation applications.
- Must be flexible and willing to work early morning, evening, and weekend hours.
- Demonstrate a strong sense of cultural diversity and sensitivity.
- Exemplary professional work habits verified by previous employers.
- Commitment to the mission and values of CHIRLA and the program, including social justice and respect for others.
- Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and tactfully with clients, co-workers, and other individuals in a diverse, multicultural work environment.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other commonly used office software
- Must pass/complete a DOJ/FBI live scan
- Professionalism, maturity, and ability to work as a team and independently.
- Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
- Excellent verbal, analytical, writing, and organization skills
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and an insured personal vehicle available for use to safely transport clients to appointments and travel hubs.
