As the Supervisor of the Cigna Benefit Investigation & Prior Authorization Team for Freedom Fertility, you will lead a high-performing team responsible for supporting patients, providers, and internal stakeholders through comprehensive pharmacy benefit investigations and prior authorization services. This role combines operational leadership, employee development, quality oversight, workflow management, and continuous improvement to ensure exceptional service, compliance, and business results.
You will oversee a team that facilitates access to medications by verifying pharmacy benefits, researching coverage requirements, obtaining prior authorization approvals, and resolving insurance-related barriers to therapy. The Supervisor serves as a key liaison between frontline staff and leadership, helping drive operational excellence while delivering a best-in-class patient and provider experience.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Provide daily leadership, coaching, and support to a team of Benefit Investigation and Prior Authorization Representatives.
- →Monitor team productivity, quality, service levels, and turnaround times to ensure operational goals are achieved.
- →Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and career development discussions.
- →Manage staffing, scheduling, workload distribution, and workflow prioritization.
- →Oversee pharmacy benefit investigations, coverage reviews, and prior authorization activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- →Partner with providers, health plans, pharmacies, and internal business partners to resolve complex insurance and authorization issues.
- →Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with payer requirements, HIPAA regulations, and company policies.
- →Identify process improvement opportunities and implement solutions that increase efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- →Analyze operational metrics and prepare performance reports for leadership review.
- →Support onboarding, training, cross-training, and ongoing development initiatives.
- →Lead team meetings, huddles, and communication initiatives to drive engagement and accountability.
- →Serve as a subject matter expert and escalation point for complex benefit investigation and prior authorization cases.
- →Collaborate with leadership to support departmental goals, strategic initiatives, and business priorities.
- →Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, quality, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
~1 min read- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 3+ years of healthcare, pharmacy operations, insurance verification, benefit investigation, prior authorization, or related experience.
- Previous leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of pharmacy benefits, prior authorization processes, formulary management, and payer requirements.
- Knowledge of specialty pharmacy, patient access, and reimbursement processes preferred.
- Experience analyzing performance metrics and driving operational improvement.
- Strong working knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, motivate, and develop employees.
- MA or AZ state Pharmacy Technician license, certification, and/or registration as required by applicable state laws.
- 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM (4 days per week)
- 12:30 PM - 9:00 PM (1 day per week)
- Weekend shift approximately every 12 weeks, based on business needs.
- Weekend schedules will be communicated in advance and may vary to support operational requirements.
This position requires flexibility to support business operations, employee development, and customer service needs while maintaining a strong focus on quality, compliance, and patient satisfaction.
If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 51,600 - 86,000 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
