DESCRIPTION

Responsible for conducting maintenance and repair tasks on water and sewer infrastructure to ensure the reliable delivery of essential utility services to the community. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

· High school diploma or equivalent is required; additional education or training in mechanical or electrical systems, plumbing, or related field preferred.

· Previous experience in maintenance, construction, or related field is preferred.

· Must possess a valid Driver's License (Class C) at time of placement.

· Must be available to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

· Strong technical skills and mechanical aptitude, with the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

· Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 75 pounds, working in confined spaces, and operating equipment safely.

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team in a collaborative work environment.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with coworkers, supervisors, and external stakeholders.

· Commitment to upholding safety standards, integrity, and accountability in all aspects of maintenance operations.

MAJOR DUTIES

· Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks on water and sewer infrastructure, including pipelines, valves, pumps, meters, and treatment facilities, to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

· Operate and maintain equipment and tools used in maintenance activities, such as power tools, hand tools, excavation equipment, and utility vehicles, ensuring proper functioning and safety compliance.

· Conduct routine inspections and testing of water and sewer systems, equipment, and components to identify potential issues, detect leaks, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

· Respond to emergency calls and service interruptions for water and sewer infrastructure failures, leaks, and other incidents, assisting in troubleshooting, repair, and restoration efforts to minimize service disruptions and public health risks.

· Receive and prioritize work orders for maintenance tasks, following established procedures and timelines to complete assignments efficiently and accurately, and documenting work performed as required.

· Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while performing maintenance tasks, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), adherence to safety regulations, and participation in safety training programs.

· Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, repairs, and equipment maintenance logs, ensuring compliance with departmental policies and regulatory requirements.

· Collaborate with other maintenance technicians, supervisors, and departmental staff to coordinate maintenance activities, share knowledge and expertise, and support departmental goals and objectives.

· Interact professionally with customers, contractors, and community stakeholders while performing maintenance tasks, addressing inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a courteous and timely manner.

· Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities provided by the department to enhance technical skills, knowledge of utility systems, and job performance.

· Other duties as assigned.
