This volunteer position will be opened until filled.
JOB SUMMARY
The Friends of the Marion Public Library is looking for volunteers to assist in the Bookstore. This position is a core volunteer position to serve customers and maintain the Bookstore during library operating hours. Additional opportunities will be available for events such as book sales, bake sales, or farmers markets. Duties will consist of operating the register and credit care terminal for sales, answering inquiries about the Friends of Marion Public Library and donation procedures, receiving book donations, and more.

- You enjoy working independently as well as with others.
- You have some experience with customer service.
- You would like some interaction with library patrons and members of the community.
- You feel comfortable using a register (training is provided).
- You feel comfortable asking for help.
- You love your Marion Public Library!
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess patience, flexibility, and curiosity.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow directions.
- Possess a strong attention to detail.
- Possess basic computer skills (must be able to communicate via email and text as well as use the scheduling app)
- Ability to keep confidential all information learned while volunteering.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stand, push, pull as required.
- Physical agility, strength, and dexterity necessary for handling library materials, including but not limited to retrieving, shelving, lifting, and moving library materials.
- Ability to lift up to and push 35 pounds.
Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Indoor work setting.
- May involve moderate noise levels and fast-paced periods during programs.
