The Technical Trainer is responsible for delivering product, technology, and industry-related training programs to customers, partners, and internal employees. This role supports the development and maintenance of training curriculum, instructional materials, and technical documentation related to fiber optic products, applications, and installation practices. The position also supports customer implementation activities, including first-time installations and field training, while ensuring training content remains current with industry standards and organizational objectives.
This position requires frequent travel and collaboration across multiple departments including Applications Engineering, Product Management, Sales, Operations, and Customer Support.
Responsibilities

Deliver instructor-led and hands-on training programs covering product applications, installation methods, fiber optic technologies, and related industry practices.
- Conduct company certification programs and support delivery of applicable industry certification coursework, including Fiber Optic Association (FOA) content where applicable.
- Provide technical training support for internal employees and cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate with Applications Engineering and other teams to coordinate training initiatives and technical education efforts.
- Develop and maintain classroom schedules, agendas, instructional plans, and associated training materials.
Assist in developing customer-specific training programs and instructional content.
- Support creation and revision of lesson plans, learning objectives, instructional units, presentation materials, and supporting resources.
- Assist in development and maintenance of technical documentation, product guides, instructional videos, and related educational materials.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to training effectiveness and curriculum design.
Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, supplier developments, standards, and best practices within the communications and fiber optic industries.
- Evaluate training effectiveness and recommend updates or process improvements.
- Review training metrics and reports to identify trends, performance opportunities, and areas requiring corrective action.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and technical problem-solving activities.
Support customer implementations through first-time installation activities and field-based instruction.
- Provide on-site technical guidance related to product installation, application, and operational procedures.
- Coordinate logistics for training materials, demonstration equipment, and hands-on samples.
- Arrange and conduct customer training sessions at company facilities and customer locations.
- Maintain records of completed training activities and certification reporting requirements, including external reporting obligations when applicable.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Telecommunications, Information Technology, Education, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience within the communications, telecommunications, fiber optics, or related technical industry.
- Demonstrated experience in technical training, instructional delivery, curriculum development, or workforce education preferred.
- Relevant industry certifications preferred, including but not limited to:
- Fiber Optic Association (FOA)
- Electronics Technicians Association (ETA)
- BICSI certifications
- Other industry-recognized credentials
- Strong presentation, facilitation, and instructional delivery skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications
- Demonstrated technical writing and documentation skills.
- Ability to develop instructional materials and communicate technical concepts to varied audiences.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences
- Ability to adapt quickly and maintain productivity in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with evolving business needs
- Travel domestically and internationally, approximately 60% of the time
