Field Technical Trainer

Primary Role:

We are seeking an experienced Field Technical Trainer to develop and deliver practical, safety centered training for employees working in OH/URD electric utility construction. This role combines classroom instruction, hands-on field demonstrations to strengthen technical experience, and consistent work practices. The ideal candidate brings strong utility field experience, strong instructional skills, and a commitment to building a culture of continuous learning and safe performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Deliver classroom, yard, and field technical training for utility employees.
• Teach safe work practices related for overhead and underground distribution, transmission, substations, electrical systems, tools, equipment, grounding, switching, and jobsite hazard controls, as applicable.
• Develop and update lesson plans, presentations, practical exercises, assessments, job aids, and instructor guides.
• Evaluate learner knowledge and hands-on performance; document results and provide constructive coaching.
• Partner with operations, safety, and subject-matter experts to ensure training reflects current procedures.
• Conduct field observations and skills validations to reinforce training and identify improvement opportunities.
• Maintain accurate training records and qualifications/certifications
• Lead incident learning initiatives by communicating lessons learned into training and proactive work procedures.
• Travel to field locations and training sites to support field training needs.

Minimum Requirements: 

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 10 years of relevant OH/URD electric utility experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of electric utility safety practices, job briefings, hazard recognition, and field procedures.
• Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to learners with different experience levels.
• Strong presentation, facilitation, coaching, organization, and written communication skills.
• Ability to safely demonstrate tools, equipment, and work methods in classroom and field environments.
• Proficiency with standard business and presentation software.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
• Prior experience as a Journeyman Line worker, Foreman, and or Technical Trainer.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Knowledge of OSHA requirements, applicable electrical safety standards, and utility operating procedures.
• Train-the-trainer, commercial driver, and equipment operation credentials.
• Experience with learning management systems and competency-based training programs.
• CUSP

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: 

This position works in offices, training facilities, utility yards, and active field environments. Work involves exposure to seasonal weather, uneven terrain, noise, moving equipment, and electrical hazards controlled through established procedures and personal protective equipment. The employee must be able to stand for extended periods, climb stairs or training structures where authorized, and lift or handle training materials and equipment.

Schedule and Travel: 

This is a Full-time position with regular travel to operating locations and training sites. Occasionally early mornings, evenings, overnight travel, and/or emergency response support may be required.
