The Role

We’re growing, and we need a T-shaped Senior or Lead Software Engineers to join our Software Engineering Practice. You’re someone with deep Java expertise at your core - but your curiosity doesn’t stop there. You understand the broader software delivery picture: the APIs, the pipelines, the messaging, the cloud infrastructure, and the people on either side of the problem.

Our current projects are business-critical systems that serve a large number of New Zealanders every day. You’ll be writing code that matters, alongside people who care about quality and craft.

What we’re looking for

Your core - the depth of your ‘T’:

Strong Java skills (v11+) - you know the language deeply, not just the syntax

Spring Boot (or Micronaut / Quarkus) with genuine willingness to go deep on Spring

Microservices architecture - you’ve designed and owned them end-to-end

API design and implementation that others want to use

Messaging architectures, ideally Apache Kafka

Relational databases - solid working knowledge, not just ORM abstraction

Automated testing mindset baked into how you work

DevOps and containerised deployment (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD)

React or React Native - enough frontend fluency to collaborate across the stack and build on your existing API work.

The breadth of your ‘T’ - the things that make you more than a specialist:

TypeScript / Node.js - nice to have, not a dealbreaker

Experience with large-scale relational database systems

Observability, monitoring, and a systems-thinking mindset

An appetite for AI and emerging tech - you’re watching the space

Communication skills that make complex things clear to engineers and non-engineers alike
