Reports To: Director of Community Safety

 

Job Purpose:

To support the development and implementation of a community-based restorative process rooted in Dene values and traditions. The coordinator will co-develop the start-up, coordinate, and deliver restorative initiatives by working closely with the director of community safety, the FCSS justice supports worker, Elders, leadership, community members, and partner agencies.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Co-develop and implement a community-based restorative justice program.
  • Facilitate restorative justice circles (healing, sentencing, conflict resolution).
  • Recruit and support circle keepers and facilitators.
  • Liaise with RCMP, Victim Services, Corrections, Crown Prosecutors, and other partners.
  • Conduct community outreach and awareness activities.
  • Ensure Elders and cultural practices are embedded in programming.
  • Develop policies and procedures for a start-up department.
  • Track outcomes and complete reporting for funding partners.
  • Maintain confidential case files.
  • Support program growth and sustainability.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Post-Secondary education in restorative justice, social work, or related field.
  • Experience facilitating circles or mediation.
  • Experience in Indigenous or community justice settings.
  • Understand trauma-informed practice.
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Records Check, including the vulnerable sector.
  • Familiarity with Cold Lake First Nations community.
  • Dene language is an asset.
  • Ability to build relationships with community and partners.
  • Strong organizational and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a start-up environment.
  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality.

 

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Office environment. Monday to Thursday 8:30am – 4:30pm, Friday 8:30am – 2:00pm.
  • Working hours can vary and may require a flexible schedule depending on type of assignment or work plan task.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required to attend meetings, events, and community engagement sessions.
