Weekend Front Country Operations Support

Job Purpose
The Lands and Resources Department works to protect CLFN’s Denesułine, Indigenous, and Treaty Rights through assessing and addressing impacts to those rights, enhancing CLFN Stewardship over Denne Ni Nenne, increasing CLFN participation in, and oversight of, development activities in Denne Ni Nenne, supporting strong relationships with Industry, Government, and other neighbors, and upholding the Livelihood for a Livelihood principle.
This position is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations and maintenance of front country assets in the vicinity of English Bay, including English Bay Park, Berry Point, Sandy Beach, the Treaty Grounds, Medley Campground, and Marie Lake. The incumbent ensures these public-facing facilities are maintained to high standards of safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Execute custodial and sanitation duties, including the cleaning and sanitization of washroom facilities, waste management/refuse removal, and the replenishment of firewood supplies on a bi-daily schedule.
- Safely operate departmental assets, including utility trucks, water pumps, and water transport tanks, in accordance with safety protocols.
- Act as a professional representative of Cold Lake First Nations to the general public, visitors, and park users, ensuring positive community engagement.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of site-specific maintenance standards. Ensure all assigned tools and equipment remain fully operational through proper use, routine inspections, and preventative maintenance.
- Proactively identify and immediately report any facility damage, safety hazards, or operational issues to the Front Country Operations Lead.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License (non-negotiable condition of employment).
- Must be physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying a minimum of 30 lbs. The role demands high physical stamina, including the ability to maneuver several hundred pounds of firewood cumulatively during peak weekend operations.
- Proficient in the safe operation and basic handling of mechanical equipment, including water pumps, pressure washers, tractors, mowers, weed trimmers, and various hand tools.
- Demonstrable mechanical inclination with strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot minor equipment issues and ensure continuous field operations.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements
- Standard daily shifts for this field role are typically 10:00am – 6:00pm, though extended hours may be required based on operational demand.
- Work is performed in outdoor field environments across various park sites, as well as within the maintenance shop.
Schedule & Weekend Commitments:
- Position requires mandatory weekend and holiday coverage for the duration of the peak season (May through September).
- While occasional schedule adjustments or shift-trading may be negotiated with crew members, the primary expectation is consistent weekend and holiday availability.
- Additional weekday shifts may be scheduled based on departmental work plans.
- Periodic overtime is required to meet operational needs.
- This is a seasonal, fixed-term contract expiring on September 15th.
