Are you passionate about tackling climate challenges and driving sustainability solutions? As a Marketing Communications Fellow in the Climate Corps Fellowship program, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to impactful sustainability initiatives with the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority. This is a fully in-person position with the expectation of on-site work 5 days per week.
In this role, you will work alongside Capitol Corridor’s marketing and communications team, as well as cross-functional service planning, operations, mechanical, and administrative management staff. Based on skill set and interest, the fellow will have the opportunity to experience real-time railroad operations and assist with the marketing of an intercity passenger rail service. This fellowship provides an excellent opportunity to develop skills in marketing, communications, customer experience, and service planning while gaining hands-on experience in the transportation sector. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop your professional skills, grow your network, and contribute to Capitol Corridor’s sustainability goals.
About Our Partner: Capitol Corridor
As a vital transit service in the Northern California megaregion, the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) plays a key role in advancing sustainable travel. With an integrated network of train and bus services, the Capitol Corridor’s footprint spans 171 miles from Auburn/Sacramento to Oakland/SF/San Jose, connecting many cities and destinations in between. The Capitol Corridor Marketing Communications Fellow will have the opportunity to work on projects that support integrated marketing, communications, service planning, and customer experience strategies while contributing to sustainability and climate change initiatives.
What You’ll Do
- Provide graphic design support by creating digital and print marketing materials.
- Develop content for news articles, blogs, and newsletters featuring destination highlights, service updates, promotional offers, and more.
- Update the digital media library.
- Conduct onboard and station site visits to assess customer experience and gather feedback.
- Provide partnership activation support through the creation and execution of promotional materials and activities.
- Collaborate on sustainability-focused initiatives, such as projects aimed at reducing the organization’s carbon footprint or improving eco-friendly travel options.
- Support operations in implementing rail safety initiatives in collaboration with California Operation Lifesaver, Union Pacific Railroad, and other local and regional partners.

- A fixed, monthly stipend of $4,165.
- $1,000 end-of-program financial award.

- 10 Personal Days (for a standard 10-month Fellowship), in addition to all holidays off that are observed as closure days by the partner placement site.

- Professional networking and learning opportunities, including participation in rail industry conferences, community outreach events, and training on marketing communications software.

What We’re Looking For
- Strong communication skills.
- Interest in transportation.
- Interest in marketing, communications (media relations, public relations, community affairs, graphic design, social media, website design, etc.).
- The ability to work onsite on a full-time basis. Only candidates currently residing within commuting distance of the site address will be considered.
- Commitment to a fair workplace that honors the experiences, voices, viewpoints, and values of all individuals.
- Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
- May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.
- Must be 18 years or older to apply.
Nice-to-haves
- Degrees in any of these fields - Marketing (graphic design, advertising), Communications (Journalism, Online/Print).
- Internships with other marketing and communication firms.

Climate Corps Fellowships are classified under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) as temporary, educational internships that emphasize training and career development, and thus no employment relationship exists, nor is compensation required. However, while not considered traditional employment, Fellows receive a living stipend and professional development support throughout the program.
