Science Lab Assistant

About the Role

CMIS is looking for a dedicated Science Lab Assistant to support our Science Department in delivering high-quality, hands-on science education. In this role, you will work closely with teachers to prepare and maintain laboratory equipment, support students during practical lessons, and help ensure that every science class runs safely and smoothly. You will play a key part in helping Middle School and High School students get the most out of their science learning experience.

Key Responsibilities

Lab & Equipment Preparation

• Prepare laboratory equipment and materials as requested by science teachers
• Check and manage science equipment stock levels
• Requisition and order science supplies as needed
• Clean and maintain lab equipment after use
• Care for and maintain laboratory apparatus, constructing or modifying equipment where needed
• Dispose of waste materials safely and appropriately

Foss Kids Equipment Management

• Order FOSS kits equipment in line with Science Department policy
• Label equipment with barcodes and maintain accurate inventory
• Maintain the equipment database in Koha (check-in/check-out system)
• Conduct regular stock checks

Field Trip Support

• Assist in planning science-related field trips with the Science Department
• Draft correspondence for venue use, both on and off campus
• Support participants on-site to ensure trips run smoothly

General & Technical Support

• Assist teachers during labs, including carrying out demonstrations
• Support elementary teachers in setting up and conducting science investigations and demonstrations
• Carry out risk assessments and health & safety checks in labs, prep rooms, and storerooms
• Keep the lab and surrounding areas clean, tidy, and clearly labeled
• Maintain a shared working calendar with teachers to coordinate prep and classroom time
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and relevant training
• Adhere to CMIS practices and policies at all times

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Science or a related field
• TOEIC score of 600 or above
• Strong English communication skills
