About Your Role
CMTS is seeking an experienced TDIP Construction Manager to support the Terminal Development and Improvement Program (TDIP) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This role is responsible for managing and coordinating construction activities performed by contractors, including Design-Builders and Construction Managers at Risk.
The TDIP Construction Manager serves as a key liaison for pre-construction and construction activities, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance while supporting the modernization of airport terminals. This position plays a critical role in maintaining schedule certainty, budget performance, and operational coordination in a highly active airport environment.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in:
- Construction Management
- Engineering
- Architecture
- Or a closely related field
Master’s degree preferred
Relevant professional certifications such as AAAE, LEED, PE, PMP, AICP, or similar are a plus
What You’ll Need to Get the Job Done
- Minimum ten (10) years of construction management experience
- Experience working in active/operational environments, preferably airports
- Experience managing large-scale projects valued at $100M or greater
- Strong knowledge of construction contracting practices and delivery methods (Design-Bid-Build, CMAR, Design-Build)
- Thorough understanding of the full construction lifecycle from pre-construction through closeout
- Ability to manage scope, schedule, and budget constraints simultaneously
- Strong leadership and stakeholder coordination skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Proven ability to collaborate with contractors, designers, and stakeholders to resolve complex issues
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on airport terminal, concourse, headhouse, or civil/site projects
- Familiarity with LAWA standards and airport operational requirements
- Experience in large capital improvement programs
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders in regulated environments
- Proficiency with Bluebeam and project management systems such as PM Web
What You’ll Do
- Lead and oversee construction teams in accordance with program and client requirements
- Monitor all on-site construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget
- Coordinate construction activities with contractors, stakeholders, and LAWA operations
- Ensure compliance with approved work plans, specifications, and Area Shutdown Requests (ASRs)
- Review and validate contractor submittals, RFIs, and change orders
- Evaluate and negotiate contractor change order claims
- Track project schedules, budgets, staffing, and resource allocation
- Identify potential risks and implement proactive mitigation strategies
- Ensure quality control and enforce safe construction practices
- Prepare and present progress reports to project leadership and stakeholders
- Participate in coordination meetings with contractors, trade partners, and stakeholders
- Support testing, commissioning, and project closeout activities
- Maintain strong working relationships with project teams to promote collaboration and problem-solving
- Ensure compliance with all program policies, procedures, and labor agreements
- Contribute to program goals through effective coordination and communication
- Perform related duties as assigned
