The Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Specialist will provide support with administrative duties within HSE and the Human Resources department. The HSE Specialist will report to the HSE Manger and support the adherence of company specific HSE protocols including Local, State, Federal and Safran regulations as applicable. The HSE Specialist will promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, data reporting, regulatory compliance, continuous improvements, and risk reduction strategies. Proper alignment with HR, Engineering, Quality, Leadership, Maintenance, and Supply Chain is required.

Responsibilities

  1. →Assist the HSE manager for documenting all actions plans, corrective actions, audits, and follow up information to maintain accurate records and ensure a reliable system of record. Coordinate with internal tracking systems regarding safety related improvements and observations.
  2. →Compile, organize, analyze, and maintain HSE data, safety metrics, KPIs, and reporting by department and shift to support regulatory compliance, company procedures, and internal/external reporting requirements.
  3. →Perform OSHA recordkeeping and annual reporting activities in accordance with regulatory requirements.  
  4. →Maintain and update EHS training records, certifications, and other compliance related documentation for all employees.
  5. →Develop and maintain an EHS master compliance calendar for audits, regulatory reporting, inspections, certifications, and required training. Coordinate and schedule annual safety, health, and security training programs and events.
  6. →Assist HSE Manager with incident, accident, and injury reporting. Duties include proper documentation per company policy, investigation, follow up and corrective actions.
  7. →Maintain records and inspections for emergency equipment, first aid supplies, safety stations, and fire protection systems.  
  8. →Partner with Human Resources with Workers Compensation and Occupational Provider third party administrators for work related accidents and injuries that require follow up, modified duty, and restrictions.
  9. →Conduct employee onboarding safety trainings and provide materials for orientation, on-the-job training and follow up reoccurring trainings.
  10. →Assist with JSA data and ensure accuracy by partnering with Quality, Management, and Leadership.
  11. →Provide HR with safety and security communications (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually)
  12. →Attend local safety counsels, events, and trainings and be able to inform the HSE Manager and the company on any applicable changes and updates. 

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in health, Safety and Environment or a related field.
  2. Three years or more experience working in a HSE role within a manufacturing setting.
  3. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory standards.
  4. Strong computer skills that include but are not limited to HRIS, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  5. Effective communication skills to interact and communicate with employees.
  6. Ability to adjust scheduled to meet the demands of all shifts within the company.

 

  1. Professional certifications such as the OSHA 10 Hour General industry Certificate,
  2. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  3. Ability to effectively interact with employees, auditors, and external service providers.
  4. Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations. 
  1. This position has pre-employment testing requirements that may require fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
  2. Follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
  3. Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift. 
  4. Occasionally required to lift, carry, push or pull up to 10 lbs.
