Duties The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and operational excellence of the municipal golf course, including golf course conditions, maintenance facilities, equipment, irrigation systems, and Pro-Shop operations. Responsible for hiring recommendations, training, scheduling, assigning work, evaluating performance, and enforcing safety, operational, and customer service standards. Plans, schedules, and directs daily golf course maintenance operations, including greens, tees, fairways, roughs, practice areas, clubhouse grounds, and maintenance facilities. Oversees maintenance warehouse operations, including inventory control, equipment storage, and safety compliance. Orders, reviews, and approves materials, supplies, chemicals, fertilizers, and equipment required for daily and seasonal operations. Oversees operation, maintenance, repair, and scheduling of irrigation systems, pump stations, drainage systems, wells, and water management practices. Monitors turf health and environmental conditions to proactively identify and address disease, insect, weed, and irrigation issues. Manages maintenance shop operations and ensures equipment is serviced according to preventive maintenance schedules. Develops annual operating and capital budgets for golf course maintenance operations and monitors expenditures to remain within approved budget allocations. Purchases equipment, chemicals, fertilizers, seed, irrigation supplies, fuel, tools, and other maintenance materials in accordance with City purchasing policies. Maintains inventory control of equipment, chemicals, fertilizers, irrigation components, and maintenance supplies. Oversees maintenance of clubhouse grounds, landscaping, parking areas, maintenance facilities, and related structures. Coordinates construction, renovation, including greens, tees, bunkers, drainage improvements, irrigation upgrades, cart paths, and landscape enhancements. Establishes daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal work schedules for maintenance personnel. Trains employees on equipment operation, turf maintenance practices, safety procedures, and proper use of chemicals and personal protective equipment. Conducts employee performance evaluations and recommends personnel actions including hiring, promotions, discipline, and training opportunities. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including safety, environmental, and licensing requirements. Maintains accurate records related to chemical applications, irrigation usage, equipment maintenance, budgets, inventories, employee training, and regulatory compliance. Coordinates course maintenance activities to minimize disruption during tournaments, special events, leagues, and daily play. Works collaboratively with golf operations staff to maintain high-quality playing conditions and customer satisfaction. Responds to emergency situations including irrigation failures, weather events, flooding, storm damage, equipment failures, and other operational issues. Ensures all maintenance operations are conducted in accordance with City safety policies and OSHA regulations. Performs inspections of the golf course to maintain consistent playing conditions and aesthetic standards. Attends professional development opportunities to remain current with industry standards and best management practices. Pro-Shop Operations: Supervises and manages all Pro-Shop operations, including staffing, scheduling, merchandising, inventory control, point-of-sale systems, and daily operations. Supervises Pro-Shop employees, including hiring recommendations, training, performance evaluations, discipline, and enforcement of customer service standards. Ensures Pro-Shop operations align with City policies, financial controls, revenue goals, and customer service expectations. Coordinates Pro-Shop activities with golf course maintenance, clubhouse operations, tournaments, and special events. Works collaboratively with City management, staff, vendors, golfers, and the general public to ensure high-quality operations and customer satisfaction. Must have and maintain, without interruption, required certifications and licenses. Works assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policies. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Eight (8) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in golf course maintenance, turf management, or golf course operations. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in golf course management or related supervisory experience. Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid Texas Driver's License and good driving record. Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules as required by golf course operations. PREFERRED: Bachelor's degree in agronomy, horticulture, turfgrass management, or a related field. Professional certification such as Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) Class A or Assistant Superintendent certification. Experience in municipal or public golf course operations.
