Elevator Inspector - DOB Certified

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified DOB Certified Elevator Inspector to support the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) under the Construction Management as Agent Services IDIQ-6 program. The selected candidate will provide elevator inspection, testing, compliance monitoring, and quality assurance services for capital improvement, modernization, rehabilitation, and infrastructure projects throughout NYCHA facilities.

This role will be responsible for ensuring elevator systems comply with applicable New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) regulations, New York City Building Code requirements, industry standards, project specifications, and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform elevator inspections and evaluations for modernization, rehabilitation, repair, and new installation projects.
• Conduct and witness required elevator acceptance testing, annual inspections, and Category 1 and Category 5 tests.
• Verify contractor compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and applicable regulations.
• Review elevator-related submittals, shop drawings, testing reports, and technical documentation.
• Document inspection findings and provide written reports identifying deficiencies, corrective actions, and compliance issues.
• Coordinate with CM staff, engineers, contractors, consultants, and NYCHA representatives.
• Monitor installation quality and construction progress to ensure adherence to project requirements.
• Participate in project meetings and provide technical expertise regarding vertical transportation systems.
• Track and report inspection activities, punch-list items, and corrective action status.
• Maintain inspection records and documentation required by NYCHA and NYC DOB.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 5 years of elevator inspection, elevator construction, elevator modernization, or vertical transportation experience.
• Current certification as a Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI).
• Current approval or eligibility to perform inspections under applicable NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) requirements.
• Strong knowledge of:
• NYC Building Code
• NYC Elevator Code
• ASME A17.1 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators
• Elevator testing and commissioning procedures
• Experience preparing inspection reports and compliance documentation.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Experience supporting public-sector clients such as:

• NYCHA
• NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC)
• Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)
• Port Authority of New York & New Jersey
• DASNY
• NYCEDC

Experience with:

• Elevator modernization programs
• High-rise residential facilities
• Public housing projects
• Construction management and owner's representative services

Desired Certifications

Candidates should possess one or more of the following:

• Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI)
• NYC DOB Approved Elevator Agency Inspector
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety
