Responsibilities

  • Client Communication: Engage directly with clients to provide case updates and address any inquiries they may have, ensuring they feel supported and informed throughout the legal process.
  • Case Management: Assist in managing a high-volume criminal defense caseload environment, maintaining accurate records, monitoring case statuses, and balancing shifting priorities across active clients and motions.
  • Court Participation: Communicate with courts regarding motions, filings, and scheduling, acting as a liaison to ensure legal proceedings are smooth and timely.
  • Document Drafting & Motion Support: Prepare, review, file, and navigate criminal defense motions and related legal documents, ensuring adherence to legal standards and timelines.
  • Office Collaboration: Support the attorneys and other team members across various stages of cases, exemplifying flexibility and teamwork within the firm environment.
  • Reception, Text Line & Scheduling: Handle high-volume incoming calls, return calls promptly, monitor and respond to the firm’s text line, and help manage attorney schedules.
  • Criminal Defense Experience: At least one year of paralegal experience specifically within the field of criminal defense is essential.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in MyCase, Lawmatics, Google Workspace, and general computer literacy are required.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to communicate effectively with clients and courts in both verbal and written formats.
  • Independent Work Ethic: Demonstrated ability to manage workflows independently, take initiative, and troubleshoot challenges with minimal supervision.
  • Educational Background: A paralegal certificate is strongly preferred, and a bachelor’s degree is a plus, but practical criminal defense experience and ability to perform the role are most important.
